Acquiring in 1817 the required number of taxable inhabitants qualified to vote, Cattaraugus County was chartered as it is today.
Baynews9.com – Thursday, May 05, 2016 The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office cut the ribbon on its history center Thursday. It displays 170 years of history since the department was founded in 1845.
Badges: From the earliest agency badge which was hand forged and stamped, to more commercially available forgings and the modern day commemorative, our badge collection ranges from 1845 to the current badge worn by deputies of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
And so on until 1890 the last division was made, with a total of 32 towns and villages in the county.
Perhaps one of the most sobering display was the Fallen Heroes room, featuring Sergeant Ben P. Wilder, Jr., who was killed while making an arrest in July, 1962.
The original court house, designated by state and federal agencies as an historical site, has been restored following a 1969 fire, and is now used for Town and Village of Ellicottville offices.
Standing in front of a large crowd with a giant pair of scissors at hand, Sheriff David Gee officially cut the ribbon on the front doors of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) History Center, located at 2001 N. 19th St on the corner of Ninth Avenue and 19th Street in Ybor City.
