Sean Hawkins

Chief Advancement Officer

Sean Hawkins's LinkedIn

Sean Hawkins, CAWA was welcomed as the Chief Advancement Officer for Charleston Animal Society in February 2020, after an exhaustive national search. Sean is an accomplished professional fundraiser, currently working to achieve his Certified Fund Raising Executive credential, specializing in creating mission-centric programs that increase both earned and donated revenue to enhance program support. Hired by author and humanitarian Cleveland Amory in 1989 to establish dog and cat sterilization clinics for the Fund for Animals, Sean invented the concept of deploying mobile spay and neuter clinics across the United States. Under the Fund’s umbrella, he helped to open the “largest spay and neuter clinic in the world” in Manhattan, in addition to opening and operating clinic facilities in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Los Angeles and Albuquerque. Recognized for developing non-surgical sterilization programs for animals, Sean has served as an adviser for the Alliance for Contraception in Cats and Dogs (ACC&D) and with Ark Sciences in the implementation of the Zeuterin injection technology to sterilize male dogs. He is the creator for the smash hit Hero Dog Awards® that recognizes the powerful relationships between dogs and people. Sean brought the Hero Dog Awards® to the American Humane Association as that organization’s first, national signature event and sold the television broadcast rights to Hallmark Channel for three years. While serving as the executive producer of the Hero Dog Awards® one billion media impressions and more than six million Facebook page views were earned. The television show is now in its tenth year of production. In 2017, Sean accepted the Executive Director position for the Santa Maria Valley Humane Society in Santa Barbara, CA where he was responsible for establishing new vision, mission and programs for the regional animal welfare organization. He created the “Humane Heroes Club” structured fundraising program that helped to increase donated revenue from $600,000 to $1.5 million in two years and implemented the “Adopters Welcome Here” program that increased life-saving from 493 dogs and cats in 2016 to 1,320 dogs and cats in in 2018 with a 98% live release rate. Sean earned his Certified Animal Welfare Administrator (CAWA) designation from the Association of Animal Welfare Advancement in 2016. Obtaining the CAWA designation is the highest professional credential possible in the animal welfare sector.
