Position Summary The Assistant Teacher (0-3) assists the lead teacher in developing a classroom atmosphere where children can grow and develop in a safe and positive learning space. Candidates must have a passion for creating a safe and nurturing environment for children to receive a quality education.  Education & Certification Requirements Candidates must have an Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development or 30 college credit hours with a minimum of 15 credit hours in early childhood or child development; at least one year of experience in an early learning setting preferred. Experience & Training Requirements While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to read and write English proficiently. Candidates must regularly operate a word-processing system and therefore must be able to read, produce and transmit data on such a system.  Desired Outcomes Identifies own learning needs and takes the steps necessary to develop skills and set challenging goals. Working with direct supervisor on a yearly professional development plan. Fully implements the Reggio Emelia approach to learning with their teaching team. Required Tasks Always maintains a positive attitude regardless of the situation. Assist the Lead Teacher with paperwork including but not limited to lesson planning, observations of children, and maintaining children's binders. Always interacts with students in a respectful, supportive, and positive manner ensuring children feel safe and their voices are heard in the learning process and daily activities. Maintains a learning environment that is organized, clean, and inviting. Children are allowed free choice the entire day and are encouraged to explore their environment at their own pace. Attends and participates in EQI trainings. Keeps work area clean, safe, and secure. Always maintains confidentiality regarding client and staff's personal information. Works well with others, offering help when needed and seeking assistance when necessary. Handle conflicts with clients or staff in a way that results in others feeling respected and valued. Communicates with parents, students and coworkers in a way that results in their feeling that you care about their well-being, values and diversity by treating all with respect, integrity and dignity without regard to background, race, religion, age, gender, disability or sexual orientation. Partners with the lead teacher to develop a classroom environment that is a welcoming learning environment for children and their families  Assists lead teacher in planning, implementing and evaluating developmentally appropriate activities for young children including the following activities: Self Image, Language/Literacy Development, Music and Movement, Social Studies, Science, Math, Art, Large/Small Motor Activities, and In-Depth Projects.  Supervises and interacts with all children's activities   Develops strong partnerships with the families  Assumes responsibility for the classroom in the absence of the lead teacher  Attends home visits and conducts parent-teacher conference assessment reviews, as needed.  Participates in Family Reviews and IFSP/IEP meetings, as needed.  Shares responsibility for preparation and clean-up of all classroom activities.  Assists with responsibility of ordering supplies needed for the program. Maintains reports on children's growth and development.  Attends and participates in parent meetings, in-service trainings, and weekly team meetings.  Assists with the implementation of the Reggio Emilia Philosophy, focusing on in depth studies and classroom explorations.  Performs other duties as assigned.  Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and read English proficiently.
