City of Annapolis company history timeline
The academy (founded 1845), which occupies the site of old Fort Severn, has a 338-acre (137-hectare) campus built on the river; the naval hero John Paul Jones is buried in its chapel crypt.
In 1902, the Annapolis Emergency Hospital opened in a small cottage.
Annapolis had already had a taste of this in 1941 with the United States Naval Academy taking a neighborhood of 93 households in two city blocks to build an athletic field house.
Administrators changed its name to Anne Arundel General Hospital in 1949.
Friendship International Airport opened in June 1950.
In 1952 the city acquired and tore down a much smaller community called Gott’s Court, an alley community of homes rented by African Americans.
The Anne Arundel County Fair came into existence during the same year, and Maryland’s first shopping mall began serving customers in 1958.
