1980

In 1980, Don began a business called Corporate Sports Unlimited, to develop team-building events for executives and employees, starting with the "Battle of the Superstars" which he performed for companies nationwide.

Corporate Sports Unlimited was founded in 1980.

1982

Financial stability first became a concern in 1982 when Brunswick found itself facing a hostile takeover.

1983

The fitness center design, consulting management services began in 1983, years ahead of the myriad of companies who have entered outsourcing as their primary business.

1988

Expansion Begins in 1988

In 1988, when Florida-based sporting goods retailer Sports Authority opened a superstore near Sports & Recreation's corporate headquarters, the gauntlet had been thrown down directly on Bradke's home turf.

1989

In September 1989, a Luxembourg investment banking company named Investcorp bought a majority interest in the company, thereby facilitating the establishment of additional stores.

1992

The first full-year after the September 1992 public offering was the best financial year in the company's history.

By 1992, when sales continued to rise robustly to $167.4 million, the Sports & Recreation chain comprised 20 stores spread across a 12-state area that bounded the southeastern and southwestern United States.

1993

Sales were up 43 percent to $239 million, net income was up an enormous 124 percent to $11.3 million, and the company's stock, which began trading on the NASDAQ market at $17.50 per share, was trading at $43.25 per share at the end of 1993.

1994

The United States 10K Classic presented by Publix and Gatorade (now named WE Series), a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, was started by Don and began in 1994.

1995

Corporate Sports introduced a personal training program within its executive clubs in 1995, which increased member service, club revenues and CSU revenues in its first year.

Don now spends a great portion of his time managing this 501(c)(3) non-profit event, for which The United States 10K Classic has donated over $5 million dollars to 30 local charities since 1995 to the not for profit community affecting children.

1996

Bradke was fired by Sports & Recreation's board of directors in February 1996 and replaced by Stephen Bebis, who previously had been in charge of a Canadian chain of home improvement stores named Aikenhead.

2022

WE Run ( Formerly the United States 10K Classic) will have 35,000+ participants by the year 2022 and be contributing over $500,000 per year to the not-for-profit community for children in need.
