The CorrectionalOfficer Trainee position, for a period not to exceed three months, will receive formalized and on-the-job training in security and custodial duties for IDOC. Interested candidates are strongly encouraged to be physically fit at the level required at screening prior to arrival at the Training Academy. Upon successful completion of Pre-service Security Training, IDOC cadets will participate in a formal ceremony at the academy and cadets are awarded certificates and badges and sworn to the Oath of Office.

Essential Functions
* Receives eight weeks of formalized pre-service security training at the IllinoisCorrections Training Academy including firearms training due to requirements mandating qualification.
* Receives on-the-job training under immediate supervision of a qualified correctional employee. A
* Assigned each work week to another correctional employee to assist in running lines, yard, dining room, housing units, facility buildings, writs, observing individuals in custody, perimeter patrol, armory, counting, shakedowns, movement, etc.
* Travels by using a state issued vehicle to complete assignments.
* Receives one week orientation at facility.
* Given formal training in housing unit work, report writing, out-count work, yard work, running lines, individuals in custody at this institution and their assignments, chain-of-command, security buildings, disciplinary procedures, and any other training deemed necessary.
* Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
* Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of high school.
* Requires elementary knowledge of resident behavior problems.
Conditions of Employment
* Requires completion of a pre-service security training course during trainee period.
* Requires successful completion of a firearms training course and learn the proper use of firearms during trainee period.
* Requires a valid appropriate driver's license and the ability to travel statewide.
* Must be eligible under federal and state law to acquire and possess a firearm and must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a valid Firearm Owner's Identification (FOID) card.
* Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department.
* Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
* Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of the position held, is prohibited.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES
The Detention Officer shall be familiar with and adhere to the philosophy and all policies and procedures as established by the Madison County Probation & Court Services Department. All work must be treated as confidential.
The Detention Officer will perform activities to include, but not be limited to, the following:
Shall be familiar with all statutory provisions regarding the operation of detention facilities.
Shall provide supervision, guidance, care and secure custody consistent with Departmental policy and procedure, while promoting the philosophy and direction of the department.
Shall incorporate Evidence-Based Practices with regard to interactions with detainees.
Shall demonstrate an understanding of the stages of adolescent development, transitional disorders, mental illness, and other issues that may affect detainee behavior.
Shall strive to attain constructive, professional relationships with all detainees by developing trust and mutual respect, and by learning the interests, abilities and problems of the youth.
Shall maintain direct involvement with youth by being present on the detention floor.
Shall encourage appropriate behavior of detainees through positive verbal communication.
Shall intervene in the event of an infraction of established rules and regulations.
In crisis situations, shall respond accordingly using the least physical force necessary and re-establishes direct contact with the youth upon stabilization of the situation.
Shall maintain safety and security by having constant visual contact, proper positioning during activities or movement, and conducting random room searches.
Shall maintain safe and secure transport of juveniles as directed.
Shall make complete, accurate written entries in all records, reports and logs.
Shall assist in the creation, design and implementation of a variety of programs, presentations and events aimed at promoting positive change and deterring negative behavior in young people.
Shall attend and participate in youth staffings, staff meetings, and/or training programs as assigned by the Superintendent.
Shall demonstrate support for fellow employees in the course of the performance of the job.

Shall work closely with other units of the Department or outside programs to support the successful completion of probation by detainees.
Shall perform such other duties as assigned by the Director of Probation and Court Services, the designated Superintendent, the designated Chief Managing Officer or other designated managers.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Minimum 4 year degree from an accredited college, with major course of study in criminal justice, human services or related field.
Completed a minimum of 40 hours of training; however, the 40 hours of training may be completed within one year following the persons appointment to the Probation and Court Services Department.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
Due to department structure and programming, individual must maintain flexibility in assignment location and scheduled hours of work.
Must possess the ability to successfully complete a physical ability component, toxicology screening and psychological evaluation.
Must be a citizen of the United States. Must be a resident of the county in which he/she is employed. Must be generally qualified as provided by law or rule of court.

Assist in controlling vehicular and pedestrian AOA entry including conducting vehicle inspections.
Maintain surveillance of the terminal and other buildings and provide general security of the Airport.
Perform duties associated with airline operations including terminal and other buildings and provide general security during passenger flight operations.
Must obtain and maintain knowledge of the AEP, ACM, SICP, ASP, TSA 1542, and FAR 139, as well as any other relevant material for the position of PSO I.
Perform delivery inspections as required.
Contribute to the publication of relevant Notice to Airman (NOTAMS) for the Airport based on criteria established in the Airport ACM.
Must possess alertness and skill in detecting and recognizing safety hazards.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
In accordance with the Mission and Values of Southwestern Illinois College, the Part-time Patrol Officer is a part-time commissioned officer (uniformed) position and is contingent upon external funds. The position is assigned shifts variably and expected to be available for primarily weekends, and holiday work, and occasional overtime. Part-time Patrol Officers are expected to perform collateral duties in an area of expertise/interest needed by the Department to fulfill its mission and AQIP initiatives. Enforces applicable policies, regulations and laws. Performs work of routine to complex difficulty in guarding and protecting life and property in buildings and on the grounds. Provides available services and assistance to the college community. Regulates the activities of the general public and other persons in the protection of property from fires, theft, vandalism, trespassing, and other hazards. Reports all pertinent information regarding actions occurring during a work shift. Position subject to background check and drug testing upon initial hiring and randomly thereafter.
QUALIFICATIONS
* High school diploma or GED required, college degree desirable.
* A minimum of one-year experience in law enforcement, security, fire safety, or other emergency management services required, preferably in a college campus environment, is desirable.
* Must be at least 21 years of age and a US Citizen.
* No record or criminal convictions of a felony or a crime involving moral turpitude.
* Professional certifications in Security, Law Enforcement, Emergency Medical Services or other areas related to Public Safety desirable.
* Possess a valid Driver's License. Must have a good driver's record with the Illinois Secretary of State Office or other states.
* Possess a valid Firearms Operators Identification Card (FOID).
* Successful submit and pass/if offered a physical (POWER) and psychological evaluation, medical examination, written evaluation, oral interview, and in-depth character background check.
* Must possess an Illinois Police Officer Certification in accordance with ILCS 50, Act 705/8.1.
STARTING PAY AND HOURS
$20.00 per hour, up to 28 hours per week.
