I. Position Summary
Serves as a sworn CorrectionsOfficer, under general supervision, in County correction facilities with arrest powers identical to peace officers.
II. Examples of Essential Position Duties (The following duties represent some of the principal job duties; however, they are not all-inclusive. Other duties may be required or assigned.)
* Processes and releases inmates to include taking their photographs and obtaining a legible set of fingerprint impressions. Verifies identification of adults in custody (AIC); obtains required personal information, including medical data. Issues and collects facility property (clothing, bedding, commissary). Provides laundry exchange. Seizes and re?issues AIC's personal clothing and property during intake and release.
* Supervises all AIC in an unbiased manner regardless of offense. Responds to major and minor disturbances, restores order and maintains discipline among AIC. Restrains AIC, forcibly if necessary, using handcuffs and other restraints. Subdues resisting AIC using maneuvers, aerosol spray restraint, and resorts to the use of hands and feet and other approved devices in self-defense. Exercises independent judgment in determining when force may be used and to what degree. Uses firearms to defend department personnel or others from the threatened use of deadly physical force.
* Searches people, clothing, mail items, objects capable of concealing contraband, buildings and large outdoor areas which may involve feeling and detecting objects, walking for long periods of time and detaining people. Inspects unclothed AIC including body cavities, with potential encounters with body fluids, wastes, and communicable diseases. Supervises infectious AIC. May encounter suicidal or deceased AIC.
* Detects and collects evidence and substances that provide the basis of criminal offenses or administrative violations. Confiscates illegal property. Detects the presence of conditions such as smoke, unusual or excessive noise, odors, etc.
* Controls access to and from facilities, supervises AIC movement and supervises AIC program activities. Safely uses handcuffs and other appropriate restraints while transporting and escorting AIC outside of the facility.
* Conducts count of AIC, with personal inspection at least once each hour. Conducts security/welfare checks. Records facility activity schedule on facility logs. Conducts pre?housing search of cells according to policy.
* Lifts, carries, or drags heavy objects; climbs up to and down from elevated surfaces; crawls in confined areas; uses body force to gain entrance to secured areas; pursues fleeing AIC; performs rescue operations to include administering basic emergency medical aid and evacuating AIC from confined areas.
* Conducts visual and audio surveillance for extended periods of time; operates and monitors surveillance equipment; operates and monitors electronic security equipment. Reads computer and camera screens, court and other legal and non?legal documents, distinguishes colors, and exercises full field of vision while supervising AIC.
* Engages in functions in confined areas that include such things as serving food by means of pushing a 200 lb. wheeled food cart, working rotating shifts, and physically checking the doors, windows and other areas to ensure they are secure.
* Extinguishes small fires by using a fire extinguisher and other appropriate means. Conducts emergency drills. Responds to facility mechanical failures, rectifies the situation and/or reports incident to higher authority.
* Gathers criminal information, prepares investigative reports, including sketches, using appropriate grammar, symbols and mathematical computations. Gathers information in administrative investigations by obtaining statements of involved parties, preparing reports, exercising independent judgment and determining or recommending disciplinary action for AIC.
* Reads, comprehends, and complies with or enforces legal and non?legal documents, including the processing of such documents as medical instructions, commitment orders, summons, other legal writs, department policies and procedures, labor agreements, and rules for AIC.
* Communicates effectively and coherently with other officers, deputies and AIC using existing communication systems. Uses communication skills to avoid physical confrontation. Effectively communicates with the public, including minors, providing procedural/activity information, giving information and directions, mediating disputes and advising of rights and processes.
* Demonstrates professional communication skills in court, grand jury and other formal settings.
* Performs crisis intervention functions to include suicide prevention, recognizing abnormal behavior and taking appropriate action.
* Ensures due process and access to the legal system for AIC. Ensures health standards, cleanliness of facility and AIC.
* Manipulate keys and keyboards, operates levers and buttons, manually operates heavy doors and counts, collects and inventories small items. Maintains, controls, and inventories facility keys, materials, and equipment. Uses and maintains department issued equipment as needed
* Adheres to regulatory requirements, collective bargaining agreements, County and departmental policies and procedures, required trainings, as well as safe work practices.
* Develops and maintains effective internal and external working relationships at all levels.
* Has regular and reliable attendance. Overtime may be required.

* Any combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge, and ability required to perform the job.

* Requires possession of a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record. Must be 21 years old and a United States citizen.
* Shall not have a criminal history or background which prohibits receiving certification through the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training.
* Must pass an entry level employment examination, in-depth background investigation (including credit check), and complete physical examination. May be required to pass a psychological evaluation and pre-employment drug screen.

Physical Demands (Performance of the essential duties of this position includes the following physical demands)
Requires the ability to exert moderate to extensive amount of physical effort involving stooping, crouching, climbing and lifting; must maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations and communicating with others; requires sufficient hand/eye coordination and dexterity in the use of fingers, limbs or body to perform semi-skilled repetitive movements such as use of law enforcement equipment, data entry and/or use of other office equipment or supplies; must be able to perceive forms and colors; requires driving and the ability to operate motor vehicles. Tasks involve frequent walking over rugged terrain and on steep slopes, standing, lifting and carrying objects up to 50 pounds, pushing carts up to 200 pounds, and some climbing. Tasks are regularly performed outdoors with exposure to adverse environmental conditions such as heat, cold, wetness, dust, odors, and vehicular exhaust fumes. How You Will Make an Impact
Perform inmate head counts, cell checks, and searches. Monitor, log, and supervise inmate movement, recreation, visitations, cleaning, laundry, and security checks. Corrections Deputies are required to become proficient in the use of side-arms, chemical agents, and other riot control weapons, in addition to the use of emergency communication systems, the practical application of self-defense tactics and the unarmed physical control of adults in custody. Corrections Deputies must possess good judgment, act appropriately and responsibly, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Once you have mastered the basic duties of a Corrections Deputy, there are many special assignments available throughout the agency, including assignments in Classification, Close Street Supervision, Court Services, Transport Unit, Work Crew, Intelligence and Life Safety. You may also choose to join a specialty team, such as the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT), Corrections Emergency Response Team (CERT), Dive Team, Field Training Officer, Honor Guard or the Corrections Critical Incident Response Team.

The average annual income includes Premium Pay.
Premium Pay:
Overtime: 1.5 times the employee's regular hourly rate.
Double time: All authorized work performed on the second day following the normal work week shall be paid for at the rate of 2 times the employee's regular hourly rate.
Shift Differential:
3% premium to employees for all hours worked on shifts beginning between the hours of 12:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

Education Premium: This premium pay is not cumulative, and employees are eligible for one level only:
1% premium for college coursework: 90 quarter hours or 60 semester hours.

Relocation Reimbursement:

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Book, interview, classify and process adults in custody (AIC) into jail; conduct searches of AIC; release from custody and return property.
Count, control and monitor AIC movement and activity in housing units, modules, cells and open dormitory settings; monitor suicidal AIC to determine if they require suicidal watch and provide counseling and coordination of medical services; conduct security and welfare checks and connect AIC with mental health services; search jail areas for contraband; secure and maintain evidence.
Escort AIC to areas and events within the institution, court appearances, personal interviews, medical care and other institutions; assemble and monitor AIC for transports to and from other counties, state facilities, extraditions and others; supervise and monitor mealtimes and recreational activities; supervise AIC work crews; prepare daily work release logs and investigate and report violations.
Control violent and/or mentally ill AIC; prepare daily count and AIC assignment sheets; document, record and write reports on AIC behavior and other applicable information.
Respond to backup calls for medical, AIC assaults and other emergency situations; testify in court related to crimes committed in custody.
Maintain security within the institution and oversee the health and safety of staff, AIC, and the public; control access and maintain inventory of keys; operate control rooms and panels; monitor and access security doors, gates, cameras, alarms, and video terminals; perform general facility maintenance.
Assist AIC with information regarding personal records, accounts, grievances, social visits, and court proceedings; provide information and assistance regarding criminal cases to staff and the public; communicate and work with courts, records, medical staff, programs staff, other departments and agencies.
Perform other duties as assigned.
During the first 14 weeks of training, you will learn and be evaluated in the following specialized areas:
Emergency response actions and public safety decision making.
Module / Dorm management skills.
Effective custodial supervision techniques.
Crisis intervention and advance communication strategies .
Incentives for qualified lateral candidates: The intent of the lateral incentive program is to hire candidates who do not need to complete the Department of Public Safety Standards & Training (DPSST) Basic Academy. Candidates either need to be certified in Oregon at time of hire, or out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain certification through the DPSST Career Officer Development (COD) program to qualify for the lateral incentive package. Eligibility for the COD program cannot be determined until after hire; candidates will be required to submit certification and training documentation to determine COD eligibility immediately after hire. All lateral candidates must successfully complete a field training evaluation program (FTEP) and a 12-month probationary period. Incentives will be paid out once certification status is finalized and as noted below.
Lateral candidates do not have to attend the Basic Academy.
Lateral hires holding Intermediate DPSST Certification will be eligible for incentive pay of an additional 5%, and lateral hires holding Advanced DPSST Certification will be eligible for incentive pay of an additional 10%.
Up to 10 years of prior corrections experience will be considered as “continuous service” for the purpose of vacation accrual.

As a Corrections Deputy with our agency, you will be expected to work weekends, holidays, days, evenings, or nights as scheduled. Overtime may be required, and newly hired employees should expect to rotate through all shifts within the first year of employment.
Correction Deputies are scheduled to work 5 days per week, 8.00-hour shifts. Correction Deputies assigned to special assignments typically work 4 days per week, 10.00-hour shifts.

This role oversees the safety and welfare of the campus: students, faculty, staff, guests, and the property, providing a professional presence that promotes confidence among the campus community. Lock and unlock University facilities according to the master calendar. Monitor all parking lots, grounds, academic buildings and student housing assuring a safe environment for the living and learning community. Escort students and employees as requested.
Essential Functions:
Patrol University grounds and facilities to ensure a safe and secure environment including on foot and in vehicles, patrolling Campus facilities, parking lots, and grounds including the interior of all buildings on campus.
Monitor all activity and confront any suspicious behavior on Campus.
Escort visitors and intruders off campus if required.
Issue citations and warnings to violators.
Interview individuals who are involved in incidents, gathering information and writing reports on crimes, violence, vandalism, fires, and other illegal activities that occur on campus. Give accounts of people involved, who are affected and what measures were taken to minimize or eliminate the incidents.
Title IX designated response employee. All Title IX reports will be submitted to Title IX Coordinator.
Respond quickly to all calls to Campus Safety for assistance and contacting local Police, Fire or Medical personnel when necessary.
Perform inspections of facilities safety equipment and other tasks as needed to support the overall facility management.
Perform basic inspections of Campus vehicles.
Contribute to the support and implementation of the University Strategic Plan.
Participate in Warner Pacific University professional development opportunities.
Adhere to University policies and procedures.
Demonstrate a commitment to a Christian liberal arts education by upholding the mission of the University and abiding by the Employment Standards and Lifestyle Agreement.

Minimum Qualifications:
Ability to operate a computer, with demonstrated skills with Outlook, Word, and Excel programs.
Valid driver's license and a reliable form of transportation.
Certification in specialized security training, such as DPSST (must obtain within the first 90 days of employment with WPU).
Certification in Title IX Campus Safety (must obtain within the first 90 days of employment with WPU).
CPR/AED Certification or obtain within 90 days of employment.
No convictions for narcotics or thefts.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are necessary, with the ability to actively communicate with various constituents, including, faculty, staff, administration, and the general public.

The OSU -Cascades Campus Safety Team is seeking a Campus Safety Officer. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE ), 12-month, public safety professional position.

Key Responsibilities
50% - Patrol
+ Provide vehicular, bicycle, and foot patrol of University grounds in an effort to protect life and property and promote safe campus operations. Ensure all buildings are secured as required and assist the Transportation Manager with parking enforcement.
+ Perform regularly scheduled fire drills and documents results. Performs regularly scheduled inspections of patrol vehicle and safety equipment ( AED & Fire Extinguishers) and documents results.
+ Promote safety and security at special events, including but not limited to providing traffic control, crowd control and security screening.
+ Provide information and general assistance to the campus community and the general public.
+ Provide walking safety escort for members of the campus community.
+ In a courteous and professional manner, determine authorization of persons in buildings; document and report suspicious persons or vehicles, criminal activity, hazards, fire, and property damage and/or loss. Issue Exclusion (Trespass) Notices as required to protect people and property on campus.
+ Respond to calls for emergency medical aid and coordinate with emergency services to expedite their response.
+ Observe and report potentially hazardous physical conditions; may remedy condition when appropriate (e.g., fallen limbs, debris, damage to streets or sidewalks, etc.); respond to situations representing a threat to persons or property (e.g., break-ins, fights, illicit drug activity, etc.); may intervene to prevent injury, and call for police assistance as necessary; secure scene and may obtain information from involved parties to assist local law enforcement officials.

20% - Office Duties
+ Maintain the shift log for on-duty activities.
+ Compose and submit reports for on-duty activities, noting date, time, location and circumstances of all incidents. Report unusual conditions or occurrences to supervisor.
+ Provide information or testimony to law enforcement agencies or courts as required.
+ Observe and maintain confidentiality regarding all persons and incidents, as required to protect the rights of individuals and the integrity of investigations in accordance with law, rule, policy and procedure.
+ Manage the University lost and found property program while on duty.

15% - Enforce University Rules and Regulations
+ Enforce guidelines and limitations established by management including but not limited to: Skateboard Policy, Speech Policy, Alcoholic Beverage Policy, parking enforcement and Bicycle Regulations. Refer violators to the student conduct process, University management or local law enforcement as necessary and appropriate to the person's status.
+ Assist Resident Assistants and other University Residential Education and Housing professional staff in the performance of their duties; to include the enforcement of University Residence Hall regulations and policies on Alcohol and Marijuana possession and confiscation.
5% - Assist Facilities Services
+ Assist, as needed, with snow removal, de-icing, office moves and other services as required. Issue identification cards to staff, faculty, students, and contractors; issue physical keys for building access to students, employees, and contractors; input electronic access permissions and attributes for system users; set building electronic door locks.
5% - Outreach & Education
+ Assist in the development and delivery of campus crime prevention, medical (1st Aid/ CPR / AED ), Resident Assistant and emergency management training for the University.

What You Will Need
+ Be at least twenty-one years of age;

+ Possess and maintain OC Spray, and Handcuffing certification, or obtain within 30 days of appointment to the position.
+ 1 year of prior experience in campus public safety, security, law enforcement, or military police with general patrol functions such as: emergency response, incident report writing, incident investigation, contact with violators, enforcement of rules, policies or laws.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
Position hiring for is expected to work midnight/third shift. Working conditions include working outside in various weather conditions to perform vehicle patrol, foot patrol and bicycle patrol.
Must be available to work all shifts: day, swing, and night.
Working Schedule: 4/10 hour days, or 5/8 hour days plus any emergency and on call responses. (Shift and/or work assignment maybe changed based on operational needs. Public Safety is a seven day a week operation, as a result, weekends and holiday work maybe required).
Employee carries a cell phone during all working hours.
Work in an all-hazards environment that includes, but not limited to, loud noises, bright lights, smoke, noxious odors, heights, confined spaces, hazardous materials such as chemicals and body fluids, hostile confrontations, physical arrests of persons, serious injuries or death, and the keeping and maintaining of confidential information.
