A Sheriff's Correctional Deputy Cadet enters training to join the ranks of Sheriff's Correctional Deputies who, under supervision, maintain order and security of inmates within a detention facility, transport from the correctional facilities to and from court, medical facilities, and other locations within and outside the County, supervise a crew of inmates in work projects throughout the County, and assist in the correction of antisocial attitudes and behavior. The Sheriff's Office is proud of our diverse workforce, and we encourage women and ethnic minorities to apply.
After passing the exam and screening processes, candidates are eligible to be hired as a Sheriff's Correctional Deputy and attend an Adult Correctional Academy training program as trainee.
Agility Examination: Prior to appointment as a cadet, each candidate must pass an agility test as part of the examination process. The agility test consists of three timed events: 99-yard obstacle course, drag a 165-lb bag for 32 feet, and a 500-yard run.
When hired, Sheriff's Correctional Deputy Cadets enter a 13-week Adult Correctional Academy training program. Benefits include medical, dental, and life insurance programs. Your status as trainee pursuant to the Fair Labor Standard Act does not entitle you to overtime or holiday pay while attending the Academy.
After Academy graduation, Cadets are eligible to be sworn in as a regular Sheriff's Correctional Deputy at the start of the following pay period, and be considered probationary employees of the Sheriff's Office.
A 5% salary increase is given for satisfactory job performance six months after appointment as a Sheriff's Correctional Deputy at Step 1.
Newly appointed Sheriff's Correctional Deputies must successfully complete an 18-month probationary period during which they will be required to complete a training program under the supervision of a training officer. The County supplies all safety equipment, as provided by law.
Advanced in-service training is available at the department level and in cooperation with local schools, state and national agencies. Regular County policy on tuition reimbursement applies to Sheriff's Correctional Deputies.
Upon graduation from the Adult Correctional Academy, it is a condition of employment that newly appointed Sheriff's Correctional Deputies must sign a payroll deduction authorization form providing for deduction of union membership dues or an equivalent service fee. A thirty (30) calendar day cancellation period is provided.

A Sheriff's Correctional Deputy Cadet enters training to join the ranks of Sheriff's Correctional Deputies who, under supervision, maintain order and security of inmates within a detention facility, transport from the correctional facilities to and from court, medical facilities, and other locations within and outside the County, supervise a crew of inmates in work projects throughout the County, and assist in the correction of antisocial attitudes and behavior. After passing the exam and screening processes, candidates are eligible to be hired as a Sheriff's Correctional Deputy and attend an Adult Correctional Academy training program as trainee.
Agility Examination: Prior to appointment as a cadet, each candidate must pass an agility test as part of the examination process. The agility test consists of three timed events: 99-yard obstacle course, drag a 165-lb bag for 32 feet, and a 500-yard run.
When hired, Sheriff's Correctional Deputy Cadets enter a 13-week Adult Correctional Academy training program. Benefits include medical, dental, and life insurance programs. Your status as trainee pursuant to the Fair Labor Standard Act does not entitle you to overtime or holiday pay while attending the Academy.
After Academy graduation, Cadets are eligible to be sworn in as a regular Sheriff's Correctional Deputy at the start of the following pay period, and be considered probationary employees of the Sheriff's Office.
A 5% salary increase is given for satisfactory job performance six months after appointment as a Sheriff's Correctional Deputy at Step 1.
Newly appointed Sheriff's Correctional Deputies must successfully complete an 18-month probationary period during which they will be required to complete a training program under the supervision of a training officer. The County supplies all safety equipment, as provided by law.
Advanced in-service training is available at the department level and in cooperation with local schools, state and national agencies. Regular County policy on tuition reimbursement applies to Sheriff's Correctional Deputies.

What You'll Do
Protect life and property through proactive patrol and rapid response
Handle calls for service; provide first aid; resolve disputes
Investigate crimes; collect evidence; interview witnesses; prepare clear reports
Engage in community policing and support major city events
Enforce traffic and municipal laws; testify in court as needed
Minimum Qualifications
Education: U.S. high school diploma/GED/CHSPE or AA or higher from a U.S. accredited college/university
Age: At least 20 to test and 21 by appointment
Driver's License: Valid license at application; California license by hire
Background: No felony; no domestic-violence conviction; no misdemeanor prohibiting firearm ownership; not restricted from CCSF employment
Hiring Process (Overview)
Written Exam (Pass/Fail) - choose one:
FrontLine National (NTN): Passing scores: Video 65, Writing 70, Reading 70 (each section must pass)
POST PELLETB: Prior POST written within 2 years with T-score ≥ 42 satisfies the requirement
Degree Waiver: Bachelor's degree or higher waives the written exam
Next Steps
Physical Ability Test (PAT): Measures strength, endurance, aerobic capacity, balance
Oral Interview (OI): 100% of exam score; evaluates motivation, community focus, problem-solving, and communication
Eligible List: Successful candidates placed on a list (valid up to 24 months)
Retest Window: If not passed, you may retest in 90 days (PAT or OI)

Recent POST Academy Graduates: Completed a CA POST Basic Academy within the last 2 years? Written & PAT are waived; you'll take the Oral Interview to be placed on the eligible list.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Submit formal reports of each patrol performed
Practices safe driving skills both on and off duty
Maintains a highly visible presence observing and reporting unusual activity
Conduct security checks and inspect building entrances and exits
Patrol, inspect, and secure access areas into client's premises
Lock and unlock areas according to schedule
Conduct site safety and security inspections
Document observations, activities, and actions completed
Adapt and innovate for maximum efficiency
Required Skills/Abilities:
Valid Driver License and clean driving record
Effective communication in English, verbally and in writing
Prior Law Enforcement or Military experience is a plus
Able to pass drug screen and criminal background check
Valid Drivers License with ability to pass MVR check
Minimum age of 21
High school Diploma or GED required
Two years of experience in security, customer service or similar field
Physical Requirements:
Able to walk, run, and climb stairs
Tolerate exposure to outside elements for extended shifts
Sufficient hearing to respond to verbal speech and alarms
Able to stand, walk, and/or drive for up to 90% of a 12-hour shift
