Qualifications: Education/Certification: High school diploma or GED Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of state compulsory attendance laws Knowledge of juvenile justice system and ability to present truancy cases to the court Ability to interpret laws, policies, and procedures Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Ability to operate personal computer to develop databases and do word processing Ability to travel districtwide to conduct home visits and visit sites where truant students have been reported to the district Experience: Three years working in compliance, law enforcement, or with children or adults in a leadership role Major Responsibilities and Duties: Attendance Enforcement * Investigate cases of unexcused and excessive absences and tardiness and enforce provisions of compulsory attendance laws. * Issue warnings; file complaints against students, parents, or individuals with parental control in accordance with compulsory attendance laws, Texas Education Code, and board policy; and refer to appropriate court. * Investigate cases of suspected drop out and retrieve unreturned textbooks and other school property when appropriate. Consultation * Confer regularly with teachers, counselors, principals, and other staff as well as parents to identify problems of tardiness, attendance, and student truancy. Counsel students at risk of dropping out and make a reasonable effort to gain their cooperation to improve attendance. * Conduct home visits and parent conferences on student truancy and attendance problems. Make parents aware of compulsory attendance laws and school policy for parents and students. * Represent the school district in court hearings resulting from attendance problems. Maintain contact and act as liaison to local law enforcement agencies and courts in the area of student truancy. Administration * Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required, including records of all cases investigated and reports required by the commissioner of education. * Implement and comply with policies established by federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in the area of student attendance. Under the supervision of the Security Captain or Staff Sergeant, the Security Sergeant provides first line supervision to the assigned security workforce at the job site. Ensures security services are delivered in compliance with the contract's scope of work, company policies, post orders, and all applicable laws, regulations, and operational procedures. Performs administrative duties such as incident reports, assisting with personnel evaluations and recommending discipline and commendations. The Security Sergeant is a working supervisor who is one of the primary security officers on duty but also directs or oversees through his/her subordinates all responses to emergency and non-emergency situations occurring at the job site. Duties may differ depending on job site, business necessities, and client requirements. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS * High school diploma or equivalent * 2 years of prior experience in military, law enforcement, corrections, or private security * Valid driver's license * State Unarmed Security Officer License. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS * Comply with all DUS and client policies, procedures, and work rules. * Coordinate security operations at the job site under the direction of the Security Captain. * Ensure all required paperwork is completed by the end of the shift and turned into the Captain. * Apply knowledge of the techniques and practices involved in the physical protection of property, facilities, documents, and material in order to protect against trespassers, sabotage, vandalism, theft, fire, accident, etc. * Write operational and administrative reports and provide a detailed and accurate accounting orally or in writing of all aspects of an incident or event. * Ensure that all assigned equipment, vehicles, uniforms, and gear are properly worn and maintained. Report any deficiencies or concerns to the Captain. * Schedule personnel and coordinate staffing adjustments to meet immediate and projected manpower requirements in accordance with DUS policies and procedures. * Supervise on the job training of assigned personnel, provide direct instruction to security officers, and ensure that client and DUS training program requirements are met. * Maintain established standards of officer performance by personal example.
