The Deputy Constable for Smith County Precinct 1 Constable's Office was created to assist in the service of civil process in the evening hours, patrolling the precinct, answering calls, assisting local agencies and enforcing state law. Precinct 1 Constable's Office is very committed to our community, and we are looking for an individual to add to our team that will give 100% service to our citizens.
Working hours will fluctuate Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00am to 8:00pm, and some weekends to help assist.
Incentives include paid TCOLE training, furnished uniforms, patrol duty vehicles (with in Smith County limits) and furnished assigned office equipment.
This position will be available starting on 10/01/2025
* Serve Civil Process Documents issued by the JP Court, County Court, and District Court.
* Serves as a bailiff to the Smith County Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace while court is in session as needed.
* Patrols Precinct 1 and provides law enforcement services to the citizens. Answers 9-1-1 calls for service and assist other local agencies.
* Inspect residential neighborhoods and businesses for activity to prevent theft and burglary.
* Provides detailed incident reports on incidents, calls and arrests that involve Precinct 1 Constable's Office.
* Logs in evidence associated with criminal offenses/investigations. Files criminal cases with the Smith County District Attorney's Office.
* Performs Other Duties as Assigned.

Licenses and Certifications
* Licensed Texas Peace Officer through Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). Intermediate Peace Officer Certification preferred but not required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
A. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A. Education, Experience, and Training
1. Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED.
2. Six years full-time, wage-earning correctional custody, law enforcement or food service management experience to include three years in the supervision of employees. Operational Review Sergeant or Security Threat Group Sergeant experience may be substituted for supervisory experience for a maximum substitution of one year. Thirty semester hours with a minimum of six semester hours in Criminal Justice from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or by the United States Department of Education (USDE) may be substituted for one year of the non[1]supervisory experience for a maximum substitution of one year. Must have or be able to obtain current, valid ServSafe Food Safety Certification by an authorized association, organization, or government entity within twelve months of employment date. Selected applicants without required certification must sign a Credential Contingency Agreement that will remain in effect only until the initially established expiration date. Failure to comply with this contingency statement will result in separation from employment. Credential Contingency Agreements will not be extended or renewed as a result of an employee's separation from employment or acceptance of another position.
