Cotting School history

In 1900, a committee of the Board was instructed to negotiate the purchase of a lot of land on St Botolph Street in Boston at a price not to exceed $2.50 per square foot.

By 1903, thanks to a $150,000 fund-raising campaign that involved prominent figures such as Isabella Stewart Gardner, the school built its own state-of-the-art building on St Botolph Street, the draft says.

“The 10th anniversary will occur in October 1904.

Someone who is a nurse who works with special needs children can look at this and see the history of nursing with special needs children.” Teachers might be surprised to see photos showing a class held on the school’s roof in the winter of 1912, for example.

After polio vaccinations started in 1955, the school gradually became more of a prep school for children with a range of less complicated disabilities.

By 1984 the St Botolph Street building was in need of repairs that were prohibitively expensive.

From its founding until its merger with the Krebs School in 1986, Cotting School was located at 241 St Botolph Street in Boston Massachusetts.

The new School opened on October 1, 1988.
