Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
Support the Agronomy Team with weekly pest scouting, tissue sampling, crop management and irrigation scheduling.
Participate in data collection of R&D test plots, and evaluation of on-farm research.
Assist with irrigation system scheduling and soil moisture management.
Gain experience in pesticide programs and planning
Give and receive real-time performance feedback to further your growth and leadership development.
Deliver and present to management a summary of observations from field scouting and R&D efforts.
Observe field operations as it relates to potato planting, harvesting, etc.
Take on other tasks and responsibilities, as needed.
Physical Demands
Walking and working outdoors in the elements.
Driving between farm sites to move samples and other supplies.
Regularly lifting objects (such as potato samples) of up to 40-50 lbs.
Expected Hours of Work
Mid-May through Mid-August (Start and End Dates are Flexible based on candidate's schedule)
Typical daily farm hours are 7 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday, with occasional hours outside this window during peak times (Planting/Harvest).
Required Qualifications
Are pursuing an Associates or Bachelor's degree in agronomy, crop science or related field.
A valid driver's license or the ability to obtain one and pass vehicle insurance verification.

Planting Module
Interns may learn how to setup and plant various types of research studies at the PFR farm site. This will include organizing seed, planting, cleaning out meter units, and flagging or staking plots as they are planted.
Data Collection and Thinning Module
Interns will learn how to collect, report, and analyze stand count data, as well as thin plots to desired populations. Stand counts will be taken to compare fungicide treatments/insecticide treatments and many additional agronomic variables.
Plot Identification Module
Interns will learn how test plots are designed and mapped as well as the proper identification of varieties and technologies by numbering and installing signs and stakes on plots.
Production Module
Interns will learn various aspects of production agriculture through agronomic support of Beck's Hybrids sales staff in the marketing area. Opportunities will be available to ride along with the PFR Location Lead on customer calls to evaluate product performance.
This provides an excellent opportunity to learn how to diagnose agronomic issues and how to evaluate hybrid performance in real world production agriculture.

Summary:
The Feed Mill Manager Trainee trains to oversee all aspects of production, delivery, maintenance, and customer service for the feed mill operations. Job Responsibilities:
Cattle Feed Intake:
Determine daily feed calls based on cattle intake patterns, cattle type, weight, health, and weather. Foreman will visually appraise cattle behavior and bunk condition to accurately determine appropriate feed requirements.
Foreman will be responsible for coordinating feed requirements and timing with feed delivery, hay delivery, and cattle shipping/receiving when receiving fresh cattle.
Productivity:
Daily management of feed truck crew to ensure correct, accurate, and timely delivery of all rations. Visual inspection and appraisal of the feed ration.
Expense Budgets:
Shared responsibility with the Growyard Manager for daily operating expenditures in the feed delivery department.
Truck Maintenance:
Oversee preventative and scheduled maintenance on all feed trucks, scales, and feeding system computers.
Additional Responsibilities:
New employee orientation and training of Feed Delivery employees.
Assist the Growyard Manager on annual performance and wage reviews.
Deliver appropriate coaching, direction, and daily supervision of employees against productivity, quality, and animal husbandry practices.

Summary:
The Feed Mill Manager Trainee trains to oversee all aspects of production, delivery, maintenance, and customer service for the feed mill operations. In collaboration with Plant Manager they will provided day to day support to the feed mill. The Feed Mill Manager Trainee will follow all JDH safety policies and procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Efficiently coordinate and manage production practices to ensure efficient, quality-controlled feed is produced in a safe working environment.
Maintain Safe Feed/Safe Food procedures and certification. Follow all Current GMPs.
Maintain inventory balances and quality assurance.
Test and summarize quality control data and share with Assistant General Manager and Feed Business Manager.
