Architecture Modeling (AM) Intern
THE ROLE:
The Architectural Modeling (AM) tool is the single simulator for all graphics products at AMD. The tool is utilized to predict the performance of the next-gen product across different GPU families at AMD. The role of the Engineer/Scientist can be of four different categories.
Problem identification: Data from the AM tool is used by AMD architects used to identify points that can be enhanced in our next-gen products. AM team develops a variety of tools and datapoints makes finding performance problems easier.
Feature Development: The AM team works with architects on ideas, called features, to improve the graphics architecture. The AM team has the core responsibility of proving or disproving new features inclusion in next-gen products.
Model Development: As an AM engineer you will develop the knowledge of the entire graphics and compute pipeline for all our off-the-shelve products, and details of the upcoming changes and their impact.
Model Enhancement: AM is a C++ simulator, with python postscripts for data visualization. As an AM engineer you would get the chance to bring your expertise in these languages to improve the AM tools in terms of wall-clock runtime, memory consumption, and complexity.
SW Shift Left: Help drive our SW shift initiative where we have a model and driver stack to facilitate our architecture analysis and IP verification needs.
The Candidate
As a GPU modeling engineer, you will work in a hardware/software codesign environment to craft industry leading simulation platforms and tools, have a strong voice in next generation of AMD products, and get to learn and contribute to the entire graphics pipeline and software/hardware stack. The ideal candidate is a highly skilled software designer and engineer, who is proficient in C++, and familiar with hardware architecture. Knowledge of the GPU hardware and the efficient use of discrete GPUs, APUs, and mobile devices is an advantage. The candidate will work in a big team environment on a variety of opportunities, so teamwork and drive are essential.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
Do you want to help improve experiences of groundbreaking AMD products? If so, AMD Hardware team is the right place for you. We are seeking a highly motivated Hardware Engineering intern/co-op and in this role:
* You will collaborate with Engineers and be responsible for some of AMD's discrete and embedded hardware products.
* We will train you to build applications for external and internal use as well as large scale systems that improve the efficiency of AMD Hardware organization.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
* You are currently enrolled in a US based University into a Undergrad program majoring in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering or a related field.
* If you have knowledge / experience with any of the following technical skills (or related areas) and are enthusiastic about this role, we strongly encourage you to apply -
* C/C++, Verilog, VHDL, Python, Perl, Spice, Ruby, Chrome OS, MATLAB.
* ASIC design and verification.
* ML and AI.
* System/Board design, circuit board layout, signal integrity, power design.

* Pre-silicon and/or post-silicon platforms.

THE ROLE:
Advanced Technologies Group (ATG) is a technology group running at the innovation forefront of AMD with missions in developing new camera/computer vision/machine learning technologies and solutions to transform how our we will live and work on AMD next generation platforms.
THE PERSON:
ATG is looking for motivated and top minds to join our System Architect Teams to help define, prototype, and drive our long-term technologies vision that will have significant impact for AMD's future products in the 3-5 years horizon.
You will be actively contributing to the development in areas of applied machine learning, camera, computer vision, and advanced technologies for different platforms running different operating systems including Windows, Linux, Android, Chrome, and other OS.
We are looking for a candidate who takes a proactive approach, is outgoing, takes initiative, and loves problem solving. The successful candidate will be passionate about applying academic knowledge to solve real world problems.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
In this role you will participate in developing end-to-end machine learning-based solutions for camera and computer vision applications running on AMD Edge platforms
Work closely with HW and SW teams and get your hands on a broad range of activities from solution design, software development, to optimization and deployment for Edge platforms
Measure, analyze, and optimize power and performance for both application and system software/hardware stack
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
Proficiency in C/C++ and Python programming
Solid understanding of Machine Learning concepts
Background in one of the following fields: computer vision, computer architecture, algorithm design
Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills
Background in working with TensorRT, PyTorch, TensorFlow or other ML frameworks
Experience in working with ML stack for Edge/Mobile devices
Experience in GPGPU compute using CUDA or OpenCL
Experience in software performance benchmarking, profiling, and optimizations
Experience in developing computer vision algorithms using OpenCV and/or Deep Learning approaches
