Douglas Dietzman is Executive Director of Great Lakes Health Connect (GLHC), the state's largest, self-sustaining community health information organization. At its formation, he developed Michigan Health Connect's HIE business plan and private sustainability model with the founding participants. He also led the integration activities associated with the merger of Michigan Health Connect and Great Lakes Health Information Exchange starting in July 2014. Revenue has grown over 30% per year and the organization currently has a staff of over 30 high performing individuals. GLHC's current service area covers the entire lower peninsula of Michigan and currently consists of 126 hospital participants representing over 82% of the licensed beds in the state. It has also connected with over 4,000 physician and other participating office locations representing over 15,000 individual community providers across the state who are using one or more GLHC's solutions. Participants also include post acute care, POs/PHOs, community mental health, local public health, behavioral health, social services (e.g., food bank, homeless shelter), federal qualified health clinics, health plans, and diagnostic centers. The network serves over 6.5 million consumers across the state and transacts over 83 million messages monthly. His experience over the past 20+ years includes business and technology leadership in integrated delivery systems, health plans, physician offices, consulting and internet startup companies having worked for Andersen Consulting, Spectrum Health, First Consulting Group, iBelieve.com, Mercy Health Services, and Michigan Health Connect. He was named a 2011 Thought Leader in Health Care by Business Review West Michigan. He serves as a member of Washington DC based eHealth Initiative's Leadership Council and is a Board member of the Strategic Health Information Exchange Collaborative (SHIEC), a national trade association for health information exchange organizations.
