**Position Description** . TheVP of Operations is a key player in the leadership of Baker Electric, Inc., a subsidiary of publicly traded EMCOR Group, Inc., and is located in Des Moines, IA. The position is responsible for overseeing and managing operations within assigned divisions of the company, by providing oversight, direction and support to the division managers and their teams, for ensuring all are informed about business activities, performance, opportunities and recommended courses of action, and for advising the President, or other executives, of any issues that relate and impact the operations of the company.
The VP of Operations is part of the Executive team responsible for the development, design, operation, and improvement of the systems that create and deliver Baker systems and services and for leading appropriate change initiatives, as needed. The VP of Operations communicates and stresses Baker Electric Values and Safety culture through all operations and systems so that it infiltrates business leaders and employee's actions.
**Essential Duties & Responsibilities**
+ Partner with the President and other leaders to build an organizational culture that mirrors and reflects the mission and values of the company.
+ Lead assigned divisions and team to evaluate and take actions that are consistent with the overall company strategy, setting performance goals that are tailored to each Division, to challenge basic assumptions underlying each division's operations and set operational goals, that are aggressive, yet obtainable, and tied to long-term goals of the company.
+ Identify opportunities and areas for improvement within each area of responsibility and improve the operational systems, processes and policies in support of organizational missions by building a culture that demands increased efficiencies and customer satisfaction.
+ Lead Division Managers and their Project Managers through monthly project status/project reviews (WIP), assisting in the preparation and analysis efforts, to identify and understand any areas of concern or interest. Assist in the development of key performance indicators for benchmarking, analyzing and planning.
+ Monitor divisions, departments and personnel performance against expectations and goals to ensure progress is being made, and if necessary, develop remediation plans to bridge any gaps.
+ Develop and drive operation and divisional meetings to promote open, honest and collaborative communication practices, including setting goals and expectation for the meetings, as well as planning and assisting in the meeting content.
+ Actively partner with executive team to orchestrate and promote overall community involvement throughout the company, at all levels, that align with the goals and values of Baker Electric, Inc. Actively work with different groups (i.e., Business Development, Recruiting, etc.) to monitor activities and evaluate additional opportunities.
+ Engage in continuous efforts to optimize customer satisfaction/loyalty through improved operations and efficiencies, employee training and engagement, technological or business opportunities, etc.
+ Monitor division and department performance against goals to ensure progress is being made. Establish development or disciplinary actions, as needed, if there are gaps in goals found.
+ Partner with President and CFO on budget planning process, including, but not limited to, reviewing cost to complete, projections, and job performance.
+ Comply with all Company operating policies, procedures, and safety programs as established.
+ Perform additional assignments as required by the needs of the company or as directed by executives.

+ Working knowledge of federal, state, and city regulations and guidelines

+ Provides expert and technical advice on targeted projects and project start-up meetings.
+ Mentors and supports a team of BIM drafters/detailers through various stages of projects, assigning work as appropriate to their level of skill and to foster continued growth, as well as general overall support.
+ Ensures the work of the team, including accuracy of modeling matches submittals, conduit type matches specifications, compliance with codes, and overall adherence to project specifications.
+ Develops and maintains BIM standards, directly or indirectly, including modeling, coordination, annotation, prefab, deliverable and template creation, for the team and the company.
+ Enforces consistency and quality of work following the established standards.
+ Stays up-to-date on emerging technologies and design tools, maintains knowledge on opportunities for integrating storage and sharing processes, and looks for opportunities for greater efficiencies and workflows.
+ Escalates critical and/or sensitive issues to the Division Manager / Executive Team with recommendations for resolution.

+ Drive the projects' overall flow effectively from inception to completion.
+ Obtain contract and bid documents from estimating; review and understand scope for project turnover. Attend walk-throughs.
+ Ensure all project document control is completed efficiently by project team, including but not limited to, insurance, bonding, permits, submittals, RFI's, change orders, correspondence, etc.
+ Confer with supervisory personnel, owners, contractors, or design professionals to discuss and resolve matters such as work procedures, complaints, or construction problems.
+ Plan, schedule, or coordinate construction project activities to meet deadlines.
+ Prepare and submit budget estimates, progress reports, or cost tracking reports.
+ Inspect or review projects to monitor compliance with building and safety codes, environmental regulations, or other regulations.
+ Select subs and equipment suppliers with input from engineering, estimating and purchasing as required.
+ Verify correct drawings are distributed to field.
+ Create schedule of values, or billing format as required by the contract documents.
+ Create project schedule showing completion, delivery dates and sub requirements. Integrate into overall project and manpower schedule as required. Understand notice requirements.
+ Request PO's for major equipment and subs indicating shipping requirements, and anticipating delivery dates. (Request proper delivery notice at that time.)
+ Facilitate material takeoffs by trade foreman.
+ Host and attend all necessary meetings with both internal and external entities to review scheduling and delivery, work plans, job progress, manpower, and solutions to setbacks.
+ Support accounting department in monthly billings and collections and follow up on outstanding balances.
+ Collaborate with foreman regarding project safety. (Toolbox talks and weekly walk through.)
+ Gather information for changes in work and turnover to estimating for pricing. P.M. will finalize C.O. pricing after estimating completes takeoff and attempt to maximize profit on C.O.s. Ensure no work starts prior to approval or notice to proceed.
+ Assist field personnel in closeout of project.
+ Obtain as-builts from field; request CAD from engineering.
+ Escalate critical and/or sensitive issues to the Division Manager / Executive Team with recommendations for resolution.
+ Comply with all Company operating policies, procedures, and safety programs as established.

**In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:**
+ Support and promote a strong safety culture.
+ Coordinate and connect with all levels of the organization (formal and informal presentations).

+ Ensure all welding, heat-treating, and hard-facing is performed in accordance with qualified procedures.
+ Participate in development and qualification of new procedures, processes, and personnel.
+ Participate in development of capital spending plans, write and support Appropriation Requests and support implementation of new capital technology.
+ Provide manufacturing support collaborating with Engineering, Sales and Marketing to address potential manufacturability issues related to welding.
+ Identify and facilitate the implementation of process improvement opportunities to improve quality while growing output and efficiency.
+ Complete root cause analysis of weld-related defects and non-conformances. Assist in development and implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
+ Support day-to-day production activities by assisting with fabrication plans, fixturing, set ups, and scheduling strategies.
+ Support welding personnel performance through in-process observation and training. Provide feedback and assistance to address deficiencies and improve quality and efficiency.
**Who You Are:**

**For This Role, You Will Need:**
+ Understanding of welding practices (GTAW, SMAW, and SAW etc.).
+ Proven solid understanding of NDE practices.
+ Proven working knowledge of heat treatment practices and requirements.
+ Use of measurement tools and welding-specific gauges.
+ Problem solving, data analysis, and troubleshooting.
+ PC skills including Outlook, Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint.
+ Ability to work in a team environment.
+ Ability to provide performance-related feedback face-to-face in a productive manner.
+ Excellent oral and written communication skills.
**Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart:**
+ 5 years of hands-on welding experience in a construction or manufacturing environment using GTAW, SMAW, and SAW welding processes (at a minimum).
+ Formal visual weld inspection training.
+ Experience with PAW and Laser overlay welding.
+ Experience welding carbon, alloy, and stainless steels - experience with Grade 91 CSEF steel.
+ CWI weld inspection training.
+ Familiarity with ASME B&PV code requirements.
