Employees in this position work with a variety of materials (e.g., plastics, rubber, aluminum) in experimental projects. Working with autoclaves and ovens used for curing pre-preg materials and coordinating the work with higher graded shop employees.
Position Responsibilities:
Obtain work from sources (e.g., lead, work orders, shop requests,) for daily work assignments.
Perform planned work, pre-cure rework of materials and post-cure rework (e.g., thermal plastics, rubber, bonded assemblies) as required.
Operate a computer to access programs required to perform job functions as required.
Work with higher grade employees to read/interpret blueprints (e.g., tooling, engineering, production) and specifications, as required.
Calculate math dimensions working with sample parts, sketches or verbal instructions for fabricating details, as required.
Work with higher grade employees to provide production/tooling assistance to layout dimensions and /or holes when tools are not available to production shop.
Operate hand/power tools (e.g., jitterbug, dotco) for cutting or trimming, as required.
Work with materials to perform bonding/curing (e.g., thermal plastic, rubber, resins, adhesives) in the experimental and production lay up process, as required.
Use precision measuring tools (e.g., calipers, scales, micrometers) to check work performed.
Work with personnel (e.g., lead, planning, engineering, supervision) to resolve tooling issues, as required.

Maintain required certifications used in the fabrication process.

Depending on experience, our Fabricators perform various levels of work within the aircraft float fabrication process. As you gain experience and receive training, the work you will be performing will be more complex and you will have the opportunity to advance. Please note - there is no welding in this position.
Performs simple fabrication and assemblies of aircraft floats under the guidance of more experienced fabricators.
Forms material to match blueprint specifications or sample parts, following instructions.
Operates equipment and utilizes common hand tools to manufacture and assemble parts.
Inspects all parts for cleanliness and defects.
Keeps Production Supervisor advised of work status, workload, problems, and progress as related to work assignments.
Records time in ERP software and signs off work order for each process of assembly.
Follows procedures that support compliance to FAA regulations.
If hired as or promoted to a Senior Fabricator, you will have the additional duties of:
Selecting appropriate raw materials and prefabricated parts to perform moderately complex fabrication and assembly of aircraft parts and assemblies. Verifying conformance to industry and Company standards. Providing feedback to lesser experienced workers.
Interpreting specifications, drawings, and/or sample parts to determine machine adjustments and material processing requirements.
Identifying and performing processes needed for fabrication and assembly.
Inspecting all parts and assemblies for cleanliness and conformity. If non-conformities exist, notifying Production Supervisor for corrective action.
Maintaining traceability of material and parts issued to jobs, returning unused material through proper procedures.
Following engineering drawings and specifications to install, connect, or bond aircraft parts using adhesives, rivets, or threaded fasteners.
Preparing and using jigs or fixtures to aid in locating, bonding, or drilling aircraft parts.

High school diploma or GED preferred. Senior level: 1 year technical diploma or equivalent preferred.

* Uses hand and power tools such as routers, drills, die grinders and other like tools to complete the required operations called out in the work instructions. Trims parts to fit and files, grinds, deburrs, bevels edges, polishes surfaces and other wise finishes out the material, part or assembly to specifications.
* Assembles detail parts into subassemblies and complete assemblies using written and verbal work instructions. Drives and bucks rivets, bolts, screws and clips and prepares and applies adhesives to detail parts to assemble products. Installs assemblies in supportive framework according to blueprints. Inspects assemblies and installation for conformance to specifications.
* Sets up and cuts out patterns. Upholsters interior panels and cabinets for aircraft installation or modification. Installs snaps and slide fasteners, hook and loop tape (Velcro) and grommets. Sewing, seaming and surging of materials.
* Operates production machines and equipment such as hot or cold presses, shears, brakes, band saws, drill presses, lathes, mills and other like production machines to fabricate parts, components and material for production uses.
