First County Bank company history timeline

1851

On September 20, 1851, The Stamford Savings Bank opened its doors for business on Main Street.

1893

While in Plymouth, the first bank was opened in 1893 and named The Bank of Plymouth.

1903

Marion County State Bank’s roots had its beginnings through The First National Bank of Harvey, which was organized in 1903.

1920

They sold the bank to the Kenneth H. Bean and William L. Bean in the 1920’s.

1926

By 1926, Stamford was a major city with a population of 50,000, and The Stamford Savings Bank was celebrating its 75th anniversary, with deposits now totaling almost $10,000,000.

1933

In 1933, FDR declared a bank holiday and Farmers State Bank was one of only 120 banks allowed to reopen for business in Nebraska without restrictions and continued to operate successfully.

Born during the financial strife and struggle of the American economy in 1933, Countybank was developed by a group of Greenwood South Carolina businessmen who banded together to better serve their community.

1935

In 1935, Kenneth Bean voluntarily liquidated his First National Bank of Harvey and secured a new state charter for Marion County State Bank of Pella.

1940

Once again, the Bank outgrew its home and in 1940 constructed a new brick Georgian structure on Atlantic Street.

1945

By 1945, its assets had multiplied nine times its starting size.

1961

In 1961, the Bank’s deposits were well over $150,000,000 and the Bank opened it’s first branch office.

In 1961, the Bean family sold controlling interest to three Vermeer brothers – Ralph J., Gary J. and Harry G. Vermeer.

1976

Marion County Bank added a second location that honors the heritage of the community in 1976.

1996

With this purchase in 1996 the two banks became First Tri-County Bank.

2000

In 2000, Marion County Bank continued to remain locally owned when the Vermeer family sold ownership to Pella Financial Group, Inc.

2001

In 2001, First County Bank reached a historical milestone in celebrating its 150th anniversary.

2019

Important information about the condition of the Bank as of December 31, 2019.

In 2019, Marion County Bank expanded their footprint to span Marion County by uniting with Iowa State Savings Bank in Knoxville and Melcher-Dallas.
