A construction management and general contractor is seeking a Carpenter Foreman for a 6-month contract-to-hire opportunity in the Indianapolis area. The ideal candidate will bring with them the safety requirements associated with commercial construction along with a comprehensive understanding of procedures, techniques, tools, equipment, materials, specifications, quality and cost control measures. In addition, this Foreman will need to have experience effectively leading teams as they will be managing carpenters, labors, and equipment operators for small to large budget commercial construction projects. Types of project work could include formwork, interior fit-out, installation of doors and hardware, wall protection, bump rails, roof blocking, etc. They are seeking someone long term so reliability, attendance, and willingness to drive to sites within a 50-mile radius of Indianapolis is a top priority. The Construction Foreman takes a hands-on leadership role on the job site ensuring prompt, efficient progress of the work. The Foreman determines priorities for work to be done, sometimes on their own initiative and authority, but more often based on needs communicated by management. Job Duties: Heavy equipment operation - Track hoe, backhoe, (ability to install sheet piling a plus), rental equipment and materials scheduling and call off. Direct and run the project. Communicate to the Installation Manager any specific requirements for completing the project in a safe, timely, and profitable manner. Communicate with the customer or their onsite representative the requirements or issues that may arise on the job site. Ability to read and understand applicable plans and specifications, environmental regulations, fire and building codes that must be enforced on the site. Attend the following meetings (as applicable): Pre-Construction Meetings Safety Meetings Selected training sessions as directed by the Installation Manager Keep accurate daily records on each job. This should include, as a minimum, a record of all tests, inspections, the daily progress on the job, visitors to the job and situations that may affect the schedule in a negative way. Set an example for your crew members by reporting to work on time and in proper uniform. Supervise the daily activities of the crew. Plan for tomorrow. The team leader is able to proficiently operate various equipment related to the construction and installation of landscape and hardscape elements. The position requires strong communication skills and the ability to effectively delegate tasks while working as a productive team member. The team leader has a firm understanding of construction techniques and horticultural practices. This position reports to the Production Manager of Install. Plans and organizes the job, ensuring that sufficient resources and materials are available. Also ensures that job is completed in the most time-efficient manner. Manages a team of two or more employees, including handling personnel issues on site and training employees on policies and procedures. Maintains a clean and safe work environment, including work site and equipment. Briefs Managers and Sales and makes recommendations on job status, personnel issues, or client concerns. Works as a member of the team. Maintains assigned equipment and notifies mechanic/management of needed repairs. Snow removal operations as required Experience and Qualifications This position requires a high school degree or GED. A two or four year degree in a horticultural related discipline is preferred. A minimum of 2 years landscape team leader experience is required without degree. Candidate must be able to read and write. The successful individual will have a working knowledge of standard horticultural and hardscaping practices including natural stone, masonry, pavers, pond, low-voltage lighting, planting, fertilization and irrigation installation and troubleshooting. Strong oral and written communication skills, math skills, job planning skills, and mechanical aptitude are a must. Valid Ohio drivers license Certifications This position may require that the individual become certified within one year of employment in one of the following: Ohio Nursery & Landscaping Association Certification (OCNT); or PLANET Landscape Industry Certified Ohio Driver's License and insurable with company's agent. Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred, but not required.
