HARBOR Ind company history timeline

1946

Founded on craftsmanship in 1946.

In 1946, two years after his term as Governor of New Jersey ended, Charles Edison created Sag Harbor Industries in Sag Harbor, New York.

1949

By 1949, Sag Harbor Industries was so successful that an addition was needed for the building.

1965

Since 1965, Harbour Industries has been manufacturing high-temperature and high-performance cable for the military, commercial, and industrial markets.

1972

When Irwin grew ill, the brothers sold Fox Industries in 1972.

1976

The firm has acquired more than 150 companies since its launch in 1976.

In 1976, Sam Fox formed Harbour Group.

1979

Next, in 1979, Harbour turned its attention to agricultural equipment, picking up Hinson Manufacturing Company, which produced large tractor cabs for farm-implement manufacturing companies.

1980

More industrial fabrics were added to the polypropylene group in 1980 through the acquisition of Synthetic Industries (Texas), Inc.

1985

By 1985, Synthetic Industries, maker of packaging fabrics, and concrete additive producer Fibermesh, Inc., were also added to the group.

1986

In 1986 Harbour established one new group and became involved in two other industries.

1992

Three more companies were added before Harbour took Allied public in 1992.

1994

In 1994, Harbour became a member of the Marmon Group based in Chicago, IL, an international association of more than 140 business units that operate independently within diverse business sectors.

1995

Harbour launched three new groups in 1995: industrial springs, construction equipment, and plastic processing equipment.

1997

From the outset, Harbour Group had developed a strategy to dramatically improve manufacturing companies. "Our formula has three legs to the stool," Fox told Financial World in 1997.

1998

It also became involved in heat exchangers through the 1998 acquisition of Southern Heat Exchanger Corporation.

2001

In 2001, with over 40 years of engineering experience in machining, tool building and fabricating, Harbor moved into a state of the art, 86,000 square foot facility, in Tinley Park, IL.

2004

A year later the music products group was added, and in 2004 the lighting products group was created.

2008

In March 2008, Berkshire Hathaway Inc. acquired a majority interest in the Marmon Group of companies.
