Pros of working at Hook

The benefits package was a plus I’ll give them that.

Cons of working at Hook

TLDR; I wouldn’t recommend anyone, including my dog to work at Hook. During the interview process and initial onboarding everything was great, that quickly proved to be smoke and mirrors. You may be enticed by the amount of ‘Best Place to Work’ lists Hook has been on. What you don’t know is employees are pressured to complete surveys in order to get on those lists. Hook prioritizes this as opposed to getting new business, which they desperately need. There’s a weird ‘cult like’ vibe amongst employees who’ve been at Hook for many years and have never worked anywhere else. They assume Hook actually is the best place to work. Those people have also never left Michigan. And sure, you’ll work with big industry players, but the work itself is basic and monotonous and after a new months you’ll probably be bored and start looking for other opportunities. Hook really only has about 5 clients. As another review mentioned, there is a clear “in crowd”. And if you are not a part of that, enthusiastically taking part in cringey virtual happy hours and game nights, your time at Hook will probably be miserable. And directors and other higher ups will talk about you behind your back. Due to the company’s age, processes and procedures are not clearly defined. As a new employee, it’ll be confusing. But if you raise a concern or make a suggestion, it’ll simply be shot down. If you are a minority, you are being hired to fill a quota. And you’ll be subject to micro aggressions and unconscious bias. Leadership is all white. And all related. Not a red flag at all.
