Minimum 2-4 years of clinical laboratory testing experience is required. State Medical Technologist license may be required (will be listed in requirement if its needed). ASCP or AMT certification is either preferred or required (will be listed in requirement if its required). Ability to work independently and within a team environment. Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems is a plus. High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills. Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen. Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs.

JOB SUMMARY The Lab Assistant is responsible for supporting the overall operation of the laboratory by performing various, non-technical functions and administrative tasks consisting of, but not limited to, preparing media and samples for analysis, washing and sterilizing laboratory equipment and instrumentation, entering data into software systems, and preparing individual sample kits for customers. Provides information for patient diagnosis and treatment by performing laboratory tests. Essential Functions: Consistently uses an outward mindset and puts forth exemplary effort in accomplishing his/her goals and objectives in a manner that helps others to achieve their goals and objectives. Prepares reagents, QC, and calibrators from predetermined procedures for use in routine and special tests. Performs routine and safety program checks and preventative maintenance on instrumentation. Performs patient testing in all areas of the laboratory. Performs and reports QC and calibrations as required; recalibrates if necessary. Draws blood specimens from patients as required by the supervisor. Calls critical results per procedure. Performs other related duties as required or directed. Logs and processes specimens, keeps accurate records, prepares, and transmits reports clearly and completely. Participates in proficiency testing. Assists lab aides and other hospital staff with testing information and collection criteria.
