Reports to: Supervising Teacher and Education Coordinator
Job Description: Provide instructional support in a high quality preschool program for children- ages 3-5- through teaching comprehensive skills. To prepare the children socially- cognitively- physically- and emotionally for school experiences; keep children safe in the learning environment.
Essential Functions:
1. Understands the HS components- classroom routines- and contributes to the instruction of students.
2. Follows directions of the supervising teacher and the education coordinator.
3. Takes initiative to become involved in daily classroom activities.
4. Acts as a team member in planning- preparation- cleanup and classroom activities.
5. Assists children in toileting (may include diapering children).
6. Assures the safety of all children and staff.
7. Helps in basic preparation of meals and cleanup after meals
8. Completes records accurately and in a timely fashion.
9. Engages students to support classroom curriculum- health- behavior management- and individualization.
10. Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills.
11. Interacts in a positive manner with all students- while promoting positive self-concept and demonstrates sensitivity in relating to students.
12. Understands and maintains confidentiality.
13. Completes pre-service- and in-service requirements and reports in a timely fashion.
14. Cleans and sanitizes areas of the classroom to provide a healthy- organized and comfortable environment.
15. Assists students (may require lifting up to 50 lbs.).
16. Substitutes as the bus monitor position when necessary.
17. Takes anecdotal notes and collects assessment data when necessary.
18. Other duties as assigned.
Terms of Employment: Contract for approximately eight hours per day- five days per week- and 176 days. Salary and benefits in accordance with USD 418 negotiated agreement / classified salary schedule. Calendar as determined by the HS Director.
Evaluation: HS employees are evaluated yearly.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The teacher of students with visual impairments (TSVI) and certified orientation and mobiltiy specialists are key figures on the educational team for a child/student with visual impairment. These professionals have expertise in how visual impairment affects child/student development and learning, from age 3 - 21 years of age. The TSVI and/or COMS travel to the students' assigned schools to provide direct and/or consultative special education services relating to vision loss. These services enable the students to learn in a variety of settings. The students may have only a visual impairment or additional disabilities. The cognitive levels of the students range from severely impaired to gifted and talented.
REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of Current Trends working with Students with a Visual Impairment including those with additional disabilities
Abillity to teach children with varying abilities who are blind or have low vision
Knowledge of the Expanded Core Curriculum
Knowledge of Assessments unique to students with a visual impairments
Willingness to Travel (Position is Itinerant)
Desire to work as part of the educational team and one-on-one with children ages 3 through 21 years
Abiliy to make a real difference in students' lives by increasing their skills and independence
Willingness to build close working relationships with students and their parents
Willingness to learn from and collaborate with other professionals to maximize student success
Must enjoy working with special needs students!
Must posess strong communication and interpersonal skills
Must be TSVI or COMS certified OR ability to obtain within 2 years. (Waiver eligible) This would apply to a candidate that is in a training program.
