Position Overview
In this role, youll work both locally in CT (about 50% of the time) and at out-of-state job sites (about 50% travel). Youll perform a variety of industrial electrical work, including installations, troubleshooting, and maintenance, with opportunities to learn advanced industrial systems.
Key Responsibilities
Run rigid conduit and pull wire/cables
Install cable tray systems
Work from blueprints and schematics
Install control wiring and build panels
Install LED lighting systems
Operate aerial lifts safely
Wire PLCs and control cabinets
Install, terminate, and test fiber optic cables
Work collaboratively with team members on large projects
Qualifications

Job Description:
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
This is an advanced technical and working supervisory position responsible for the design, layout, installation, repair, and evaluation of electrical power systems and equipment. The class differs from that of Electrician I by virtue of supervisory duties and responsibility for planning, coordinating and instructing in large projects. Work is performed under the general supervision of an administrative employee with considerable leeway for planning and carrying out assignments. Supervision is exercised over assigned employees. Employees are required to report to work as needed to cover emergency situations and to participate in snow and ice control activities.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Typical work activities for incumbents in this title include those listed below in addition to those typical work activities performed by lower level titles in the series. They are indicative of the level and types of activities performed by incumbents in this title. * Designs, prepares layouts for, installs, repairs, and evaluates electrical power systems and equipment
* Calculates electrical power supplies and usage
* Prepares layouts of electrical power distribution lines, relays, transformers, computers, central processing units, air conditioners, heating units, and other systems as required; supervises and participates in the installation, repair, and maintenance of these lines
* Analyzes and calculates energy conservation; supervises and participates in the installation of energy conservation equipment
* Supervises and participates in the installation of switches relays, motors, temperature controls, and other controls on terminals as required
* Supervises and participates in the installation, repair, and maintenance of indoor and outside lighting fixtures and related devices
* Supervises and participates in the maintenance and repair of computerized security, fire and control systems
* Maintains inventory of materials and equipment; requisitions same when needed;

Requirements:
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Thorough knowledge of the common practices, tools, terminology, and safety procedures of the electrical trade; skill in the application of such knowledge in order to plan, lead, coordinate and complete electrical projects; thorough knowledge of the design construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical instruments, devices, and equipment; good knowledge of computerized control systems; working knowledge of energy conservation methods related to the design and operation of electrical systems; ability to work with low potential, high potential, and extra high potential circuits; ability to interpret and apply building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings and to use formulas basic to the trade to determine voltage and resistance; ability to calculate quantities and costs of materials necessary for electrical projects; ability to supervise the work of others; ability to take the lead and give directions in the event of an electrical failure or emergency; dependability; initiative; good judgment; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Five (5) years of experience in a position involving the performance of electrical repairs and installation, two (2) of which were unsupervised, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
NOTE: No less than two (2) years of unsupervised experience will be accepted.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
A department head may require possession of a valid New York State Driver License at the time of appointment and to maintain position.
Additional Information:
The Electrician II position is a Civil Service non-competitive title with the starting salary of $71,640. This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, 12-month position.

About the role
Position Description: We seek a dedicated individual who will safely work as part of a small team to maintain all phases of electrical switch gear, both high and low voltage, as well as all electrical equipment throughout the plant. Must be able to communicate well with groups or individuals to solve problems. Must be a self-starter and able to prioritize work based on plant production requirements. Work independently with minimal assistance and understands safety procedures of electrical equipment.
This individual will participate in daily preventative, scheduled, and corrective maintenance activities in a safe, effective, and timely manner related to an electrical generation facility. The Electrician will also perform maintenance work related to the boilers and its associated electrical equipment. This includes preventative, corrective, emergency, warranty service, etc. throughout the facility. The Electrician will identify repairs and documents electrical equipment malfunctions and installs and tests new equipment in accordance with safety standards.
Other functions will include preventative maintenance as well as troubleshooting and repair of circuit breakers, motor control centers, generator, transformers, electrical metering, and protective relays and devices. The Electrician will also be capable of testing and troubleshooting AC and DC electrical circuits, motors, circuit breakers, protective relays and other related devices.
Perform preventative maintenance on all plant electrical equipment is essential as well as writing comprehensive logs, reports, and procedure manuals. Conducts preventative analysis of electrical systems and equipment updates. Reading, interpreting, and utilizing equipment manuals for technical clarification and requisitioning parts and material is required. The employee will be required to use computer-based programming to access work orders, for both corrective and preventative tasks.
Position Requirements: To be considered for this position the individual must have at least five years' experience as maintenance electrician in a power plant other industrial type setting, along with a High School/GED diploma and a valid Driver's License. Must have electrical journeyman's license or strong apprentice training experience.

Crane electrical controls
Commercial and industrial electrical equipment
MCC Controls
P&IDs, schematics and equipment manual for electrical equipment installation, trouble shooting, and programming
Must be capable of working at high elevations
Must be able to spec. out , price and install all sized conduit, junction boxes, wire, etc. for both new projects and for the replacement of existing equipment
Computing skills such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
Must be willing to be trained to operate equipment with telescoping boom and scissor lift, and well as other mobile equipment.
Must be able to work overtime on a rotating on-call schedule to support plant operations as needed including nights, weekends, and holidays. May be required to work extensive overtime hours during planned and un-planned maintenance.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee periodically enters and inspects various plant areas with rotating machinery; is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; precarious places; confined spaces; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock and vibration.
Must be able to work in all locations within the plant, under extremes of hot and cold, and in areas of dust, noise and wet conditions. Must be able to climb a ladder to access equipment and work from heights using fall protection, lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs. and other manual labor to including pushing, pulling, sweeping and shoveling.
