A driller trainee will assist the crew chief in solid auger and rotary drilling techniques. The trainee will help move, set up and operate drill rigs and related equipment to drill test holes for geotechnical engineering studies. Site investigation/geotechnical drilling is done to determine the soil characteristics on sites to be developed as building, roadways and bridges. Work is outdoors. The work is generally physically demanding. However, safety is in our work is an uncompromised value and we are proud of our safety record. RESPONSIBILITIES: * Assist in drilling operations. * Expedite field supplies. * Perform duties at multiple job sites. * Perform yard duties at direction of supervisor. * Assist in measuring test boring locations * Load and unload trucks. * Smoothly and quickly connect and disconnect the lower parts of the drill pipe when it is being lowered into and raised from the hole. * Catch samples of drilled cuttings to be analyzed. * Clean and maintain equipment. * Help move drilling rig and equipment from site to site and set up. * Dig and clean mud pits and drains. * Assist with well development and pumping tests. * Operate equipment such as pumps for air, water and mud, and equipment and tools used to correct problems in drilled holes caused by mechanical breakdowns or by harmful natural conditions. * Carry out minor maintenance and repairs, including lubrication and cleaning. * Perform other duties as assigned. The position will also provide hydrogeology support to the Water Resources Business Line. This position is based out of Stantec's West Palm Beach office. The Hydrogeologist will report to a Hydrogeologist Team Leader and will be responsible for designing, supporting, and executing hydrogeological investigations for dewatering, water supply, and aquifer recharge studies for water supply clients. This candidate also will be responsible for leading a large capacity production well design and construction projects. The successful candidate should have a background in drilling groundwater production wells, familiar with deep injection well construction, ability to oversee and support groundwater flow modeling, field investigations, conduct aquifer performance tests, project management, and technical report writing. This position interacts with both internal and external clients in field and office settings. The position requires travel to sites, primarily in the central Florida area. Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills are necessary for the position. Responsibilities * Designing water transmission and distribution systems, pumping stations, conveyance systems, water treatment systems, water/wastewater distribution planning, master planning, and treatment plant rehabilitation and expansions * Managing project tasks, project design and permitting, construction coordination, and providing regular communication and guidance with less experienced staff * Collaborate with multidisciplinary team and external clients to contribute to the successful completion of assigned projects * Maintain a high degree of quality sets of plans along with checking the work of others * Create work plans and adhere to the budget set by the client and performing strong project management knowledge * Attend meetings and communicate with clients, government entities, and various regulatory agencies to fulfill any regulations and requirements relating to projects * Monitor project progress, budgets, and schedules * This is an exciting opportunity to work with a team of engineers and designers on a variety of projects * You will flourish on both building meaningful internal and external professional relationships * You will work closely and collaboratively with other industry leading professionals, various jurisdictions, and contractors Qualifications * 4+ years of relevant engineering design experience * Professional Engineering (P.E.) License (or ability to obtain within 12 months) * Relevant municipal engineering experience including designing pump stations, pipelines, water/wastewater treatment facilities * Experience performing hydraulic modeling (using programs such as WaterGEMS, SewerGEMS, InfoWater, etc.) * Excellent written and oral communication skills * Positive attitude, self-motivated; sense of urgency to produce high quality work * Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines * Entrepreneurial spirit with the potential/desire to lead a practice and manage clients and a team Why Kimley-Horn?
