REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION LEVEL:
Two or more years post high school education, with preference given to early child-centered studies and/or early childhood development expertise. Child Development Associates (CDA) preferred credentials.
EXPERIENCE DESIRED:
Previous work in an educational setting, childcare, daycare, CPR certification, First Aid training, familiarity with various child development techniques
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to actively engage with children on their level, including bending, kneeling, sitting on the floor, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Must be able to perform duties both indoors and outdoors and participate in all classroom and playground activities.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Patience, flexibility, caring personality, punctuality, and dependability. Experience with monitoring social and emotional development and behavior management. Ability to follow classroom routines and respond calmly to challenging behaviors or situations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES
Classroom Support:
Support the leadteacher in implementing daily lesson plans and classroom routines designed to meet the developmental needs of children ages 3 to 5, including those with diverse abilities and learning styles.
Support small group and individualized instruction across developmental domains, including early literacy, numeracy, motor skills, and social-emotional growth.
Help maintain a clean, organized, and engaging classroom environment.
Incorporate play-based, sensory-rich, and hands-on learning experiences aligned with early childhood best practices.
Use positive behavior support strategies to foster social-emotional development and address behavioral challenges.
Child Supervision & Guidance:
Provide active supervision to ensure the safety and well-being of all children throughout the day, including during indoor and outdoor play, classroom transitions, meals, and rest times.
Model and support positive behavior and social interactions using developmentally appropriate guidance techniques.
Provide physical assistance to children as needed (e.g., toileting, dressing, feeding support).
Health, Nutrition, and Safety:
Assist with preparation, serving, and cleanup of snacks and meals in accordance guidelines.
Promote hygiene routines such as handwashing, toileting, and clean-up.
Follow health and safety procedures, including emergency drills and incident reporting.
Family & Team Collaboration:
Communicate professionally and respectfully with families and caregivers.
Work collaboratively with teaching staff, specialists, and program coordinators to meet individual child goals, including IEP or intervention plans.
Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and ongoing professional development opportunities as required.

Engage in parent communication such as:

Hiring full-time positions now for our infant, toddler, and preschool programs in Flandreau, South Dakota, with initial training completed in Brookings. Competitive pay ranges determined by education and experience.As a LeadTeacher, you will:
Inspire and guide your teaching team to create thoughtful classroom plans and goals, leading hands-on activities that spark curiosity and joy based on the children's unique interests and needs.
Build strong connections with families by sharing daily updates and celebrating each child's special milestones, helping parents feel part of their little one's journey.
Maintain a warm and welcoming environment by ensuring the classroom stays safe, clean, and ready for endless exploration and discovery.
Qualifications:
Candidates must pass required state and company background checks
At least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or GED required
At least six months of demonstrated experience working in childcare, daycare, or preschool required
Demonstrated knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices (DAP) required
Experience working in a NAEYC-accredited center strongly preferred
Meets requirements to apply for SDECE Pathways Level 4, committed to achieving Level 6 within first year of employment (Level 6 and above highly preferred):
Level 4: 32 clock hours of training OR appropriate age group certificate, family childcare certificate, or management certificate
Level 5: 75 clock hours of training
Level 6: 12 credits of Early Childhood Education courses earned OR Out-of-School Time Credential OR Current CDA (Child Development Associate) Certificate
Level 7: 60 credits OR Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or Elementary Education
CDA Training Details:
Initial CDA training will begin January 20 in Brookings. Classes will be held two days per week for two hours each day. Remaining required hours will be completed as practicum hours through May.
During the training period, work will be based in Brookings. Beginning in May, the position will transition to the new Flandreau Early Childhood Enrichment Center.
A two-year employment contract will be signed upon hire. If the employee chooses to leave before fulfilling the two-year commitment, funds will be reimbursed to the organization to cover CDA training, testing, and related costs (clawback provision).
Work Schedule:
Employees are expected to work 40 hours per week between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM.Benefits Include:

* Set up and maintain a safe, clean, organized classroom that is child centered and conductive to a child's need for both active and quiet play.
* Plan and implement daily activities that promote and enhance the children's cognitive, language, large and small motor, and social/emotional development. The daily plan must include opportunity for structured outdoor play when weather permits.
* Submit weekly lesson plans to supervisor.
* Monitor and be aware of the children's whereabouts at all times.
* Model and encourage nurturing, responsive care-giving and appropriate guidance of children.
* Ensure the health and well-being of children through frequent and sanitary diaper changing and toileting practice, and for older children promoting the development of healthy personal hygiene practices by modeling, by providing a routine that allows for supervised use of the restroom, assisting children when necessary, and for all children ensuring proper hand washing before meals and snacks.
* Educate children in healthy nutritional habits through activities, modeling, and meals serviced family style. Infant teachers will follow sanitary food and formula preparations individualized for each child according to parental instruction.
* Communicate with parents verbally and in writing informing them of classroom activities, their child's strengths and accomplishments, and discussing concerns if necessary.
* Conduct on-going assessments of each individual child's progress and hold biannual conferences with parents to discuss their child's progress.
* Demonstrate professionalism in interactions with children, parents, coworkers, and supervisors as outline in Guidelines for Professional Behavior.
* Supervise teacher aides and volunteers in the classroom and conduct annual performance appraisals for teacher assistants.
* Get initial Social Learning Theory training and/or refresher annually
* Models Social Learning Theory practices
* Jointly responsible for assuring a clean/attractive environment for children and families.
* Keep accurate classroom records of attendance, meal counts, medications administered, accidents and incidents.
* Sanitize tables, countertops, toys and other areas as necessary.
* Attend all training's required by licensing and any additional training opportunities deemed important in order to help meet the need of children and families.
* Assist the supervisors and other staff in meeting the requirements of the Child and Adult Care Food Program and the licensing standards required by the State of South Dakota for Licensed Child Care Centers as they pertain to your classroom and community areas of the building.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
