1884

The family moved to Detroit soon after Matilda was born and by 1884, her father owned and operated a saloon and her mother ran the boarding house next door.

1907

It was not until her marriage to John Dodge in 1907 that she became a United States citizen.

1920

In January 1920, the men behind the biggest car brands (Dodge Brothers, Ford, Olds, Chevrolet) gathered for the New York Auto Show.

Upon his tragic death in 1920, Matilda became one of the world's wealthiest women.

1927

In 1927, the Wilsons went on a second architectural tour of England accompanied by their architect.

Both paintings were created in 1927 by society portrait painter Louis Betts.

Delphine was awarded the President’s Cup trophy from President Calvin Coolidge on the lawn of the White House in 1927.

1929

19, 1929, just three weeks after the stock market crash that started the Great Depression.

1934

When Frances took her World Tour in 1934, she returned with her own beloved pekingese dogs to start her new kennel (plus their new kennel maid), along with a zebra, four donkeys and Pete the Turtle, a pet for her younger siblings Richard and Barbara.

1936

Heat Wave! The Dodge and Wilsons cooled off in the summer months with a splash at their peanut-shaped pool that was built around 1936.

1947

Construction started in 1947.

1949

The striking Colt Pegasus bronze sculpture was created in 1949 by Avard Fairbanks, an artist tied to the Dodge legacy.

1953

In 1953 the Donovan Construction Company completed Meadowbrook Manor, located at 6860 Excelsior Blvd.

1955

A controversy arose when an early version of a vending machine was installed at Meadowbrook in 1955.

1963

The following ad for Meadowbrook Manor appeared in the October 19, 1963, issue of TV Times.

1981

She first caught a hint of the piece about six years ago when viewing a 1981 archival interview between Meadow Brook staff and Matilda’s younger sister.

1993

To address these problems, the Meadowbrook Collaborative was formed in 1993, led by Linda Trummer.

1995

In 1995-96, a former laundromat was briefly used for youth programming. (The laundromat had been shut down when it was discovered that the water was being pumped into Minnehaha Creek.)

2003

In about 2003 the program moved into two combined townhouses at 4072 Meadowbrook Lane.

2012

The incredible architecture was one of the major driving forces into establishing The Hall as a National Historic Landmark in 2012.

It took three years and about $4 million to construct The Hall, which is considered one of the finest examples of Tudor-revival architecture and was named a National Historic Landmark in 2012.

2013

Student assessment done in SY 2013-14 showed remarkable growth, and compared to students the same age across the state of Minnesota, Kids at Work children tested better.

2016

Linda Trummer went on medical leave in 2016, and with the plans for the upgrades in the buildings, it is likely that it will no longer be the home of low-income people and the Meadowbrook Collaborative will be less involved.

2019

The show selected The Hall as a filming location for its 23rd season premiere in 2019 as part of a new format change — moving filming sites from conference centers to historical locations.
