RESPONSIBILITIES
Hospital Corpsmen (HM) assist health care professionals in providing medical care to Navy personnel and their families. They may function as clinical or specialty technicians, medical administrative personnel and healthcare providers at medical treatment facilities. Specifically, Hospital Corpsmen may be called upon to:
Perform emergency medical treatment on SEALs, Seabees, Marines and other military personnel injured in the field, as well as on Sailors aboard ships or aircraft
Perform emergency dental treatment as well as construct dental crowns and bridges, process
dental X-rays and operate X-ray equipment
Serve as an operating room technician for general and specialized surgery
Help administer a wide range of preventive care and medications, including immunizations and intravenous fluids
Conduct physical examinations and assisting in the treatment of diseases and injuries
Maintain patient treatment records, conduct research and perform clinical tests
Assist Navy Physicians and Nurses in a variety of medical fields, including, but not limited to: radiology, physical therapy, phlebotomy, dental, surgery, family medicine, pathology, womens health and more

Responsibilities
The general duties of a scribe may vary and can include:
•Ensures all verbal interactions and security of written, printed, and electronic files complies with HIPAA, HITECH, and PHI Privacy Laws
• Document all physician or other Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP) patient appointment dialog in real time in the client's Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) utilizing free text and/or designated templates making sure to use appropriate appointment and note titles
• Medical Scribes shall introduce themselves to the patient as working with physician X or other LIP. The Scribe will utilize standard client protocol to properly identify the patient prior to physician or other LIP treating patient.
• Researching information requested by the provider
• Documenting procedures and treatments performed by healthcare professionals, including nurses and physician assistants.
• Documenting patient education and explanations of risks and benefits.
• Physician-dictated diagnoses, prescriptions and instructions for patient or family members for self-care and follow-up
• Locate and retrieve any past medical history, lab results, imaging studies, EKGs and other pertinent reports or medical records for the physician or other LIP to review
• Medical specialties areas including the Emergency Department (ED), Orthopedic Clinic, and Cardiology Clinic.
• Veterans Health Information and Technology Architecture (VistA) and Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) experience.
• Medical Scribes shall maintain professional conduct and the highest standard of integrity during interactions with physicians and other LIPs, patients, patients' families, and other healthcare professionals. Medical Scribes shall consistently communicate and treat others in a courteous, tactful and respectful manner.
• Participate in meetings and conferences related to patient care documentation and quality improvement as requested and deemed appropriate

Qualifications

Certification (CMA) obtained through a nationally approved certification program for medical assistant, including but not limited to: American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) through the National HealthCareer Association (NHA), Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) through the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA), or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) through the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), etc. Registration (RMA) obtained through the American Medical Technologists (AMT) also acceptable. Performs all clerical and information technology functions for a physician in a clinic setting. This includes primary responsibility of the operation of the CPRS and electronic dictation system. Scribes do not have ANY patient care activities.
Responsibilities
The general duties of a scribe may vary and can include:
•Ensures all verbal interactions and security of written, printed, and electronic files complies with HIPAA, HITECH, and PHI Privacy Laws
• Document all physician or other Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP) patient appointment dialog in real time in the client's Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) utilizing free text and/or designated templates making sure to use appropriate appointment and note titles
• Medical Scribes shall introduce themselves to the patient as working with physician X or other LIP. The Scribe will utilize standard client protocol to properly identify the patient prior to physician or other LIP treating patient.
• Researching information requested by the provider
• Documenting procedures and treatments performed by healthcare professionals, including nurses and physician assistants.
• Documenting patient education and explanations of risks and benefits.
• Physician-dictated diagnoses, prescriptions and instructions for patient or family members for self-care and follow-up
• Locate and retrieve any past medical history, lab results, imaging studies, EKGs and other pertinent reports or medical records for the physician or other LIP to review
• Medical specialties areas including the Emergency Department (ED), Orthopedic Clinic, and Cardiology Clinic.
• Veterans Health Information and Technology Architecture (VistA) and Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) experience.
• Medical Scribes shall maintain professional conduct and the highest standard of integrity during interactions with physicians and other LIPs, patients, patients' families, and other healthcare professionals. Medical Scribes shall consistently communicate and treat others in a courteous, tactful and respectful manner.
• Participate in meetings and conferences related to patient care documentation and quality improvement as requested and deemed appropriate
Required Qualifications:
· Experience as a medical scribe.
· Oral and written communication
· Comfortable with frequent communication with Veterans and all VA Medical Center personnel
· Veterans Health Information and Technology Architecture (Vista) and Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) Experience.
**Full Vaccination from COVID-19 is required for all medical scribe positions.

Responsibilities

Qualifications
Must be a graduate of a recognized Medical Assistant program.
Prior experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.

All medication administration performed by the incumbent prior to obtaining the MAIII must be supervised by a licensed nurse.
