Job Responsibilities
Assures youth participation in information sessions to explain expectations, roles, and responsibilities of participants.
Assures planning and implementation of outreach and recruiting of youth to program as needed.
Builds healthy, positive, supportive relationships with participants modeling positive behaviors and offering positive alternatives to violence.
Exposes participants to new experiences in education, art, sports, science, etc.
Creates impactful efforts toward goals and objectives.
Serves as a liaison and youth advocate with families, school administrators, and social and youth services agencies.
Assists in creation, implementation, and monitoring of progress of case-plans, goals, and objectives set with youth and family/school.
Keeps a full, updated mentor caseload determined with Supervisor and Data team.
Engages youth in an individual goal plan and assists in building a safety net of services and opportunities for the participant including but not limited to job development, stipend programs, mental health services, GED services, housing, etc.
Produces documents, receipts, data reporting, and correspondence regarding activities and progress as necessary for consistent evaluation of program and timely report submittal, including participant paperwork.
Regularly assisting youth to address challenges, celebrate milestones, assists in identifying goals and problem solving.
Assures lessons provided or created are relevant and appropriate.
Participates in on-site visits, regular check-ins, and break-out planning meetings with team and Supervisor.
Performs home-visits as needed to communicate with mentee and/or mentee family.
Is aware of partner organizations and how to use “warm referral” network for linkages.
Assures documentation of all participant contacts and services provided and assists data team and development team with data collection and required reporting.
Documents detailed participant case-notes and other items as assigned.
May participate in social media, video, writings, and promotions for programming.
Plans and organizes youth programming (in and/or out of school) and monitors youth enrollment, growth, and completion.
Maintains accuracy of budget and spending plan and assures spending within target.
Participates in required evaluations and audits.

There is a probationary period of six months. The JAYPRO Mentor will have an evaluation at the end of three months to review progress, and at the end of six months to again review progress. JOB SUMMARY: Urbana School District's New Teacher Induction and Mentoring Program is intended to provide ongoing professional development and support to beginning teachers in order to strengthen the teaching and learning cycle for all students. This program connects experienced teachers with beginning teachers and new hires in Urbana in a mentor-protege relationship for one to two years.
The application process is open to all teachers who qualify, however prospective mentors can be encouraged to apply by new teachers, current mentors, and/or administrators. Mentor teachers must demonstrate a strong commitment to professional development, have at least five years experience* with positive performance ratings, and must demonstrate the ability to keep professional and personal conversations confidential. Mentor applications shall include: 1) an application, 2) a current resume, 3) a principal / evaluator reference, and 4) one letter of recommendation/support from a teacher/colleague who can speak to the candidate's experience with new or pre-service teachers.
*In some high-needs areas and in buildings/positions/programs where there are no veteran teachers who meet the standard of experience, exceptions to the five years of experience are made.
MENTOR SELECTION: Applications are reviewed and mentors selected based on specific needs of the building or program, expected new hires for the year, the completed application, and principal/evaluator recommendation. MENTOR PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to meet the minimum requirements of the mentoring program in years assigned to a protege/new teacher.
A minimum of 30 - 40 hours of contact support to a paired first or second year teacher.
If mentoring a beginning teacher, complete a full observation cycle

There will be a half-day release provided to complete this requirement. This includes scheduling a planning conference, an observation with data, and a reflecting conference.

Planning and participating in leisure activities with the individuals out in the community, at the Youth Center.
Redirecting the individuals when exhibiting challenging moments.
Transport and accompany individuals to activities as needed in company vehicles.
Maintain good verbal and written communication with all those involved to ensure all parties are kept up-to-date and informed of any changes necessary relating to participant.
Provide mobility training while exploring the community.
Generate interest and familiarity with the community through supported experiences and engagement.
Assist with identifying meaningful community resources and establishing volunteer sites.
Provide supports in various levels: 1:1 and 1:3 group sizes.
Complete reports as directed.
Maintain up-to-date understanding of best practices related to Building Full Lives through participation in ongoing training opportunities.
Aid with personal cares as defined by the participant's plan.
Respond to emergency situations promptly and administer First Aid or CPR/AED if needed.
Report any and all accidents/injuries along with filling out reports within 24 hours.
Promote and maintain confidentiality of participants at all times.

As a Youth Mentor, you will use your strong communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with youth and provide guidance and support. Individualized Youth Services (IYS) Youth Mentors work one on one with youth, guiding them through behavioral, social, and emotional challenges. IYS Youth Mentors provide respite services, critical support, and mentorship to help them thrive in various settings. IYS Youth Mentors follow policies and procedures that are aligned with the agency's mission and strategic plan.
FUNCTIONS
Essential Functions
Provide direct services and constant supervision to clients, following each client's individualized service plan.
Work one-on-one with clients to help resolve personal, social, and emotional issues, fostering positive behavioral and social growth.
Engage in activities and services alongside clients, ensuring a supportive and interactive environment.
Accurately document all services provided.
Safely manage crisis situations to ensure the safety of the client and others.
Administer and log medication, ensuring proper care and adherence to each client's service plan.
Assist with meal preparation and clean-up, following safety and hygiene protocols.
Comply with all transportation and vehicle policies, ensuring the safe transportation of clients.
Actively participate in staff meetings, contributing to team discussions and ongoing improvement.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience, Education and Licensure:
High school diploma is required. Additional education is preferred.
All program specific required training is provided through the program upon hire, including county specific training.
Prior experience working with youth and/or emotional behavioral disabilities is preferred.
Valid driver's license and proof of auto insurance is required.

As a Peer Mentor, you'll provide guidance, support, and inspiration to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), helping them live, work, and belong in their communities.

SCHEDULE AND COMPENSATION

Training Required: Completion of a 15-hour Peer Mentor 101 training and a 90-hour internship (more info below)
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Peer Mentoring (70%)
Build meaningful, trusting relationships with individuals you mentor

Medicaid reporting: log the date of your meetings, the length of time of your meetings, what you talked about, if it was in-person or virtual meeting, next steps with the action plan. This reporting may be done using a computer.
Duty 2 Ongoing Peer Mentor Training and Networking (15% of their work time)
Attend trainings in person or virtually to improve skills with mentoring, person-centered planning, independent facilitation, self-determination, community inclusion, employment, health and wellness, independent living, and transportation.
Stay involved with the Peer Mentor group through monthly and quarterly virtual meetings and other scheduled meetings.
Attend an in-person Peer Mentor retreat once a year
Present about Peer Mentoring and self-determination at conferences, trainings and other events, when asked.
Provide group peer education on self-advocacy, self-determination, and rights.
Agency Requirements (10% of their work time)
Attend agency new employee orientation and training.
Complete all State, County, and agency training requirements.
Follow all agency policies and procedures, including code of conduct and ethics.
Educational Support (5% of their time)
