Values: Accountability Caring Growth & Learning Respect Adaptability Position Description Dreamline Mentors provide social-emotional support and mentorship to students who are struggling to meet their academic and personal goals. Each Mentor works in their assigned school (locations are in the Metro or Greater Minnesota) with a cohort of 20-25 students to develop meaningful relationships and motivate students to set and achieve their personal goals. Role and Responsibilities Mentors identify individual student needs and tailor their approach, incorporating strategies for racially and ethnically diverse students. This is accomplished through mentoring, tutoring, classroom support, expanded learning opportunities, after-school support, and more. The Dreamline Mentor is also responsible for ensuring the highest quality of program delivery at their school site through reporting accurate data, building strong relationships with school staff and teachers, and engaging families as needed. Dreamline Mentors will also participate in other Sanneh Foundation programs or events as needed, including monthly professional development and fundraising events. Lastly, Mentors will have the opportunity to attend professional sporting events and cultural events. Academic Support Develop a meeting schedule with the mentee and plan at the outset of the program. Help mentees establish clear, achievable goals and develop action plans to reach them. Offer support with studies, homework, and test preparation. Help mentees understand course material, identify areas where they need improvement, and develop effective learning strategies. Personal Development & Promoting Emotional Well-Being Create a safe, supportive environment for mentees to express their concerns and anxieties. Help mentees develop mechanisms for stress and anxiety and connect them with appropriate resources if needed. Help mentees develop essential life skills, such as time management, communication, and problem-solving. Provide guidance on social skills and navigating interpersonal relationships. Commitment and Professionalism be an active listener and pay attention to both the verbal and non-verbal cues of their mentees, providing constructive feedback and encouragement. THE ROLE As a Part-Time Youth Mentor, you'll play a key role in our youth services program, supporting youth with disabilities in achieving their personal goals. Every day will be different, making this a fun and fulfilling opportunity for those passionate about making a positive impact. SCHEDULE AND COMPENSATION Hourly Rate: $16/hour Hours: 10-20 hours per week After-school programming: 2:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. Summer programming: 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. (Monday-Friday) Flexibility: Scheduling tailored to your availability WHAT YOU'LL DO Provide support to youth participants with disabilities. Assist during after-school hours (2:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.) and adjust to summer schedules (8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.). Work collaboratively with the Aptiv team to help youth develop independence, social, and life skills. Mentor participants one-on-one and in small group settings. Teach emotional regulation, coping, and anger management strategies. Maintain consistency, strong communication, and accurate, up-to-date documentation. QUALIFICATIONS Must be 18 years or older. Possess a valid driver's license and have access to reliable transportation. Meet the State of Wisconsin's minimum auto insurance requirements. Mentors will be responsible for creating positive relationships and maintaining structure in group and individual settings. Mentors help build full lives through daily living skills, mentoring, and providing respite. General hours are 3:30pm to 6pm. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, education, or related field Experience working with youth in a mentorship or counseling capacity Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Preferred Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent. Applicants must be at least 18 years or older. For some positions, a valid driver's license with acceptable driving record is required. Experience desired but not necessary - comprehensive paid training provided. Must be available to work evenings. Responsibilities: Participate in the discovery process with the participant and the Community Services Coordinator. Implement support services identified in their Person-Centered Plan. Maintain awareness of participant's interests, strengths, and needs in order to provide appropriate services and feedback during case review process. Planning and participating in leisure activities with the individuals out in the community, at the Youth Center. Redirecting the individuals when exhibiting challenging moments. Transport and accompany individuals to activities as needed in company vehicles. Maintain good verbal and written communication with all those involved to ensure all parties are kept up-to-date and informed of any changes necessary relating to participant. Provide mobility training while exploring the community. Generate interest and familiarity with the community through supported experiences and engagement. Assist with identifying meaningful community resources and establishing volunteer sites. Provide supports in various levels: 1:1 and 1:3 group sizes. Complete reports as directed. Maintain up-to-date understanding of best practices related to Building Full Lives through participation in ongoing training opportunities. Aid with personal cares as defined by the participant's plan. Respond to emergency situations promptly and administer First Aid or CPR/AED if needed. Report any and all accidents/injuries along with filling out reports within 24 hours. Promote and maintain confidentiality of participants at all times. Perform any other duties assigned by management. Skills: As a Youth Mentor, you will use your strong communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with youth and provide guidance and support. You will also use your organizational and program development skills to create effective mentorship programs and evaluate their success. Additionally, your ability to work independently and as part of a team will be essential in collaborating with community organizations and schools to identify and recruit youth in need of mentorship. Your flexibility to work evenings will allow you to provide mentorship to youth at times that are convenient for them.
