Nardin Academy company history timeline

1857

1857 - Miss Ernestine Nardin, Miss Victorine Boucher, and Miss Eliza Smith, DHM, open the first Catholic free school and academy on E. Seneca St in downtown Buffalo.

1868

1868 - The school moves to a building at the corner of Franklin and Church streets.

1874

1874 - Boys were first admitted to the elementary school.

1890

1890 - The Cleveland Avenue campus opens for both day students and boarders.

1896

1896 - Miss Nardin passes away at age 74.

1905

Father Nelson Baker performs her funeral mass, and she is buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in Lackawanna, NY. 1905 - F. Scott Fitzgerald attends the school.

1917

1917 - The State of New York is petitioned to rename the school The Nardin Academy in honor of its founder.

1996

Irene Murphy, DHM started Buffalo's first Montessori with the opening of Nardin Montessori in 1963. It was moved to the former John R. Oishei Estate on West Ferry upon its purchase (and Varue Oishei's generous donation) in 1996.

1998

It was finally opened to students in 1998.

2008

2008 - Marsha Joy Sullivan becomes the first lay president of Nardin Academy.
