New 42 company history timeline

1990

In 1990, guided by a plan to redevelop the area through the revitalization of 42nd Street’s historic theaters, the City and State established the nonprofit organization, The New 42nd Street.

1992

In 1992, Robert A. M. Stern was commissioned to develop a master plan for the redesign of Times Square.9 In addition, he developed a guideline for zoning requirements in the area, which promoted the use of large billboards that would be applied to the buildings on 42nd Street.

1995

The New Victory Theater opened on December 11, 1995.

1998

1998: A zoning code is passed that allows for Transferable Development Rights to be sold not only to areas adjacent to the landmarked buildings but to other areas within the district

2006

The show then reopened in 2006; combining its two runs, it has been a part of Broadway for more than 50 years.

2008

In 2008, the newly designed Duffy Square was re-opened to the public.

2014

2017

In 2017, New Victory celebrated the opening of its reinvented lobbies, designed by architecture firm H3, to showcase the theater’s Family Engagement activities and unparalleled commitment to performing arts engagement for young New Yorkers.

The 2017-18 season, which lasted 53 weeks, was the highest-grossing season in Broadway's history, netting $1,697,458,795, with a total show attendance of 13,792,614.
