Ozarks Technical Community College company history timeline

1990

Springfield, Missourihttp://www.otc.cc.mo.us/ Ozarks Technical Community College was founded in 1990.

1991

September 1991: First semester begins with 1,198 credit-seeking students.

In September 1991 – with 1,198 college credit students – OTC opened its doors at Cox Medical Center North and at Lincoln Hall and Graff Hall (facilities that formerly housed the Graff Area Vocational Technical Center). These two buildings became the cornerstone of the first OTC campus.

Since 1991, more than 200,000 citizens of southwest Missouri have taken advantage of one or more of the college's educational services.

1992

May 1992: First commencement ceremony held at Kickapoo High School with 54 college graduates and 41 GED recipients.

August 1992: OTC rents 14,000 square feet from the North Town Mall for additional instruction space.

1994

August 1994: OTC relocates within the North Town Mall to secure 22,000 square feet of instruction space.

1995

The OTC Foundation was established in 1995 to help meet the growing needs of the College by identifying and mobilizing broad-based regional sources and resources.

1996

March 1996: Groundbreaking ceremony held for the Technical Education Center (Norman K. Myers building).

June 1996: The Nelson Center in Lebanon established as the college’s first education center.

Students can earn a one-year certificate, two-year Associate of Applied Science degree (A.S.) or Associate of Arts degree (A.A.). In 1996, OTC received accreditation from the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Ozarks Technical Community College received accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools on its first attempt in 1996.

1997

At the OTC Springfield Campus, the Norman K. Myers Technical Education Center opened in the summer of 1997.

1998

November 1998: Tax levy passed that allows OTC to construct the Industry and Transportation Technology Center on the Springfield campus.

1999

June 1999: John Q. Hammons dedication ceremony held for the fountain along Chestnut Expressway.

2000

April 2000: OTC celebrates 10th anniversary.

October 2000: Property between Ozark and Nixa purchased for the Richwood Valley campus.

It is accredited by North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. It first offered distance learning courses in 2000.

2001

February 2001: Branson Education Center opens in the Branson Shoppes.

In February 2001, OTC was given a ten-year reaccreditation from the North Central Association.

2002

In 2002, the college expanded to serve the Branson area through an education center located in the Branson Shoppes.

2003

August 2003: OTC becomes a tobacco-free institution.

2004

A plaque recognizing the building’s placement on the National Register― honoring it as the first Julius Rosenwald School in Missouri― was unveiled in August 2004.

2005

April 2005: OTC celebrates 15th anniversary.

August 2005: Groundbreaking ceremony held for the Richwood Valley campus.

2007

OTC Richwood Valley Campus opened in the spring of 2007.

The college's growth continued in the fall of 2007, when its fine arts programs moved to the third floor of the Jim D. Morris Building, in the historic Gillioz Theater complex in downtown Springfield.

2008

In 2008, OTC began offering courses in Waynesville through a new 10,300 square-foot facility located in the Townfield Plaza Center.

2009

August 2009: OTC opens FEMA shelter at Richwood Valley campus.

2010

April 2010: OTC voted into the Hollister taxing district via “hop-over legislation.”

2012

In the spring of 2012, construction began on a new home for the OTC Waynesville Center.

2013

In the fall of 2013, the OTC Waynesville Center moved to a larger location along Interstate 44.

2015

April 2015: OTC celebrates 25th anniversary.

2017

August 2017: Pilot training debuts at OTC Springfield.

2019

Spring 2019: OTC teaches its first class on base at Fort Leonard Wood.

2020

The OTC Republic Center opened its doors in the fall of 2020.
