This position is based entirely in the outpatient clinic setting and supports a high-acuity pediatric cardiology population. Position Overview The Advanced Practice Provider will work closely with pediatric cardiologists to care for complex congenital heart patients, with a primary focus on interstage patients. These are high-risk patients with congenital cardiac defects who require multiple surgeries and close longitudinal follow-up during their palliation timeline. Care is delivered through a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach involving cardiology and the High-Risk Clinic team. In addition to interstage patients, the APP will support the broader cardiology clinic by seeing other patients as needed. Schedule and Work Environment Monday through Friday clinic schedule, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. No on-call responsibilities. No travel requirements. Supported by a dedicated team of medical assistants, nurses, and other support staff. Key Responsibilities Provide outpatient care for high-risk interstage cardiology patients under the supervision of three designated cardiologists. Participate in collaborative decision-making with cardiology physicians and the High-Risk Clinic team. Evaluate and manage patients with congenital heart disease. Assess and manage post-operative cardiac surgery patients, including evaluation of surgical wounds and identifying concerns that may require surgeon involvement. Perform history and physical examinations for patients requiring clearance or evaluation prior to CT, MRI, cardiac catheterization, or cardiac surgery. Document patient encounters accurately and thoroughly in the medical record. Communicate effectively with physicians, nursing staff, and other members of the care team to ensure coordinated care. Patient Population and Case Mix Interstage congenital heart patients requiring close monitoring between surgical interventions. Post-operative cardiac surgery patients with wound or recovery concerns. Pediatric patients with a range of congenital heart conditions. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant, Family Nurse Practitioner, or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner program. Eligible for full Texas licensure, which must be obtained prior to start date. Current national certification (PA-C, FNP, PNP-PC). Pediatric cardiology or pediatric acute care experience preferred, but not required. Strong clinical judgment, attention to detail, and ability to manage complex patients in a collaborative environment.
