A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN OPERATIONS TECHNICIAN As an operations technician, you spend your day working directly with customer service assistance to residential and commercial collection customers. Other duties include delivering and removing plastic carts, collecting and disposing of various items, maintaining records of services rendered. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN OPERATIONS TECHNICIAN As an operations technician, you spend your day working directly with customer service assistance to residential and commercial collection customers. Other duties include delivering and removing plastic carts, collecting and disposing of various items, maintaining records of services rendered. Your job is essential to the city, and you perform various setting up and removing sanitation containers from field locations for residential and commercial collection. You are constantly on your toes and ready for any new and unexpected challenges that may arise in the city. This can include operating light equipment and a variety of hand and power tools in a safe and efficient manner. When you are not out in the city, you generally are back at the office providing advice to others outside direct reporting relationships on specific problems or general policies.
