GENERAL SUMMARY
The Security Guard maintains security of the premises and all personnel by patrolling property, monitoring surveillance equipment, inspecting buildings, equipment, and access points, and controlling entry.
This position ensures confidentiality, security, and accuracy of records, and promotes positive employee, customer, and community relations. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required and outstanding customer service to fellow employees, customers, vendors, etc. is expected. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Job Summary
The SecurityOfficer plays a vital role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and caregivers. In this position, you will ensure the protection over Summit Pacific Hospital District properties and facilities by safeguarding assets, protecting against unauthorized access, and providing a visible presence to deter potential incidents.
Under the general direction of the Emergency Management & Security Manager, you will perform a variety of security duties to protect individuals and property from accidents, bodily harm, theft, vandalism, fire, and illegal entry. You will enforce hospital policies and security regulations, investigate reports of potential criminal conduct, and address security threats against patients, visitors, caregivers, and property.
To ensure a secure environment, you will patrol hospital buildings and grounds, either on foot or in a vehicle, and remain alert for violations of security regulations, suspicious activity, unauthorized individuals, or safety hazards that could result in injury or property damage.

Job Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Surveillance & Patrol: Regularly monitor hospital premises, including patient care areas, parking lots, entrances/exits, and other hospital facilities to maintain a high level of safety and security.
Access Control: Monitor and control access to sensitive areas. Ensure that only authorized personnel are permitted in restricted areas.
Surveillance Equipment: Operate and monitor security systems, including surveillance cameras, duress systems and intrusion detection systems. Report any suspicious activity or security breaches immediately.
Customer Service & Patient Support: Offer assistance, direction, and information to patients, visitors, and staff with a customer-centric approach. Conduct patient/visitor escorts, vehicle assists, and welfare checks as needed. Support patient belongings management, lost-and-found processes, and visitor policy enforcement.
Drills/Exercises: Assist with drills and exercises (fire, evacuation, lockdown, etc.).
Emergency Response: Respond promptly to security-related emergencies, such as medical emergencies, theft, disturbances, violent behavior, or potential hazards.
Conflict Resolution & De-escalation: De-escalate situations where individuals may pose a risk to themselves, others, or hospital property. Use physical restraint techniques when necessary to prevent injury or damage.
Incident Investigation & Documentation: Investigate security incidents, document actions taken, and report safety hazards. Ensure all incidents are documented according to established procedures for reporting and recordkeeping.
Safety Monitoring: Continuously monitor hospital property for safety hazards that could cause injury or damage, and take appropriate action to mitigate risks.
Staff Member Responsibilities
Professional Conduct: Maintain a professional demeanor, appearance, and communication style when interacting with patients, visitors, caregivers, and other hospital staff.
Conflict Management: Respond effectively to conflicts involving patients or visitors, demonstrating professionalism, patience, and adherence to hospital policies. Strive to resolve issues calmly and respectfully.
Confidentiality: Uphold confidentiality standards in compliance with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) and other relevant privacy regulations. Safeguard sensitive hospital and patient information at all times.
Training & Compliance: Actively participate in mandatory training programs on hospital safety, security policies, emergency procedures, and other relevant topics. Stay up to date on the latest security protocols and hospital guidelines.
Physical Demands: Engage in emergency situations that may require the use of physical force to de-escalate or restrain individuals who pose a threat to persons or property. The ability to run, climb stairs, or perform other physical activities in response to emergencies is required

Required Education and Experience
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience: Minimum of one year of experience in a security-related field. Previous experience in a healthcare setting is preferred
Technical Skills: Proficient in using personal computers and standard Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
Required Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations
Driver's License: Valid driver's license.
Driving Record: Proof of a safe driving record, as verified by a motor vehicle report (MVR) meeting Summit Pacific's established standards.
Criminal Background Check: Must pass a criminal background check.
IAHSS Certification: IAHSS Basic Certification or the ability to obtain it within 90 days of hire
Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Certification: Certification within 90 days of hire.

In an adult correctional facility, Correctional Officers provide safety and security, and assist in controlling, directing, and monitoring the activities and movement of incarcerated individuals. Provide emergency and non-emergency assistance to local law enforcement agencies on and off campus as needed and/or requested. Document and write complete and accurate case and investigative reports on incidents responded to, describing detailed information and action taken and that meet the needs of the Thurston County Prosecutor's Office. Operate police radios, emergency vehicle equipment and paging system. Monitor alarms for fire, intrusion, and other related security needs. Secure and unlock buildings and areas within as needed, or requested. Provide escorts on campus for personal safety and security as needed, within department policies and procedures. Provide security for campus special events, social and sports events. Enforce pet policy and perform animal control functions as necessary. Maintain proficiency in Use of Force and firearms skills. Complete department and State required training. Participate on committees, in meetings and otherwise represent the department as required. Attend staff meetings as required. Other duties as assigned.
Additional Duties
Provide parking/traffic assists including: directing traffic, jump-starts, vehicle entry and vehicle impounds (towing and booting equipment) within department policies and procedures. Provide unlocks or access for students, staff and faculty as is required by existing policy. Operate telephone switchboard by providing backup support for emergency communications operations.

SUMMARY: In cooperation with the community, performs patrol, investigative, service and enforcement functions, provides for the safety of the public, and performs related duties as required. Provides good customer service; communicates courteously and responsively, and provides effective and efficient service to the public and co-workers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Patrols on foot and/or in a radio equipped patrol car or boat within tribal jurisdiction to prevent violations of tribal laws, codes, and ordinances.
Performs complex investigation, renders service, enforces traffic and criminal laws, and generally provides for the safety of the public.
Enforces tribal laws, codes, and ordinances. Issues warnings and citations where appropriate and makes arrests when necessary.
Seizes equipment and evidence relative to violations for disposition by the courts.
Reads and applies department policies, rules, regulations, instructions, laws and ordinances, and general literature pertaining to policing.
Prepares written reports and memoranda summarizing information. Uses computers for reports, communications, and information retrieval.
Testifies and presents evidence in court.
Responsible for the protection and conservation of fish, wildlife, and natural resources through the enforcement of tribal hunting and fishing ordinances on the reservation, and in the Tribe's usual and accustomed fishing waters and hunting lands.
Arranges for disposition of fish, game, and other natural resources unlawfully taken.
Takes proper safety precautions, anticipates unsafe circumstances, and acts accordingly to prevent accidents. Responsible for safety of self, others, materials, and equipment.
