Baseball Umpire
Non profit job in Lenexa, KS
3&2 Baseball of Johnson County is looking for baseball umpires.
If you currently in 8th grade, and if you love sports (especially baseball), challenges, adventure, working outside, competition, schedule flexibility, and being a part of a unique and select group of people (very few can do what we do), this is the best job in the world.
We'll tell you right up front--this job is not for everyone. Coaches get mad at you. Fans yell at you. Sometimes you blow a call. It happens (even to MLB umpires). This is not your ordinary job. However, we provide the resources and support to make this an enjoyable experience.
Since 1951, 3&2 Baseball has been the leading organizer of youth baseball in Johnson County. Ask around and you'll soon encounter someone who has played, coached or umpired with us. Many of our coaches and umpires played at 3&2 as kids. We are the premier youth baseball brand in Johnson County.
We conduct about 10,000 games per year on 27 fields at our two complexes in Shawnee, KS and Lenexa, KS. We start spring baseball in March and conclude with fall baseball at the end of October. During those months, we typically have two games per night on Monday through Friday starting at 5:30 p.m. or 6:00 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday, we typically have six games per day starting at 8:00 a.m.
We're looking for umpires of all experience and skill levels, including entry level. If you've umpired before, we'll put you on fields that match your experience. If you've never umpired before, we'll train you and be by your side as you enter the profession. In any event, no matter your level of experience, we have games for you, and we will help you get better so that you can be great at your current level and move up to whatever level to which you aspire to work.
If you already work with other assigners, that's no problem. We'll schedule around your existing responsibilities. If you're unhappy with your current assigner, come see us.
If you're still playing baseball, we definitely want to talk to you. As a ballplayer, you have a unique understanding of the game. You are the perfect candidate, and we'll work with you to schedule games around your playing schedule.
If you're worried about coach and fan behavior (especially as a parent of an aspiring umpire), we get that. It takes a special person to do what we do. We're working hard to develop policies around coach and fan behavior. And we'll train you to thrive when the going gets tough. We have your back. Always.
If you think you have what it takes, contact us today--we're actively recruiting and hiring for Spring 2024 and beyond. We're going to build the biggest and most competent umpiring staff in the area. It will be a great experience for you to be a part of that.
