Details Information Working Title Children's Center Reading Tutor-Work Study Position Status Part Time Department Children's Center General Summary The Reading Tutor will play a vital role in supporting children's literacy development at our Children's Center. This position involves working with children of various age groups, providing individualized reading support and fostering a love for reading through engaging activities. The Reading Tutor will also assist with additional tasks as assigned to support the overall mission of the center.
Specific Position Duties
Reading Sessions:
* Conduct one-on-one and small group reading sessions with children of varying ages.
* Utilize age-appropriate reading materials and resources to enhance literacy skills.
* Encourage comprehension and vocabulary development through interactive discussions.
Reading Activities:
* Plan and implement fun and educational reading activities, including storytelling, reading games, and crafts.
* Create a positive and encouraging learning environment to foster a love for reading.
Collaboration:
* Work collaboratively with other staff members to support overall educational initiatives at the center.
* Support the 2 Snacks & a Lasso literacy program through the Learning Resources Center (LRC)
* Participate in training sessions and staff meetings as required.
Additional Duties:
* Assist with organizing and maintaining reading materials and resources.
* Help with general center activities and events as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
* High school diploma or equivalent.
* Must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours and eligible for the work-study program.
* Passion for working with children and promoting literacy.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
* Previous tutoring or teaching experience is a plus but not required.
