SunCoast Blood Centers company history timeline

1949

On Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1949, O.K. Fike and Doctor Millard White founded the Lower West Coast Blood Bank and planted the seeds of a humanitarian idea that would blossom over generations.

But today, the nonprofit Suncoast Communities Blood Bank, established in 1949, has seen its blood donations increase and its outlook brighten.

1968

The Society responded by forming what is now known as Nebraska Community Blood Bank in 1968 to meet the need for a safe and stable supply of blood.

NCBB has been saving lives in our communities since 1968 as an independent nonprofit blood center.

2011

Part-time Casey Key resident and bestselling author Stephen King is a Suncoast donor who in 2011 recorded an online video plea for others to join him in rolling up their sleeves there.

2020

And since 2020, our partnership with the United States Military has mobilized our local donation centers to send regular shipments of red cells (O-positive and O-negative) to our service members who need them most at home and across the globe.
