Town of Dedham company history timeline

1803

The Norfolk and Bristol Turnpike was run through Dedham in 1803, providing a main route between Boston and Providence.

1810

They were held in different places to accommodate residents in the several districts and because of the conditions of the roads and the mode of travel. It was named for a town in Massachusetts, and was first settled in 1810.

1835

In 1835, the Boston and Providence Railroad built a branch from Dedham to Readville, connecting with the main line from Boston to Providence.

1837

The first town meeting after the town was incorporated was held at the Mitchell school house, March 20, 1837.

1871

The Whiting Farm was the first large subdivision, becoming Oakdale in 1871.

1920

The Norfolk County Courthouse was the scene of the famous Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti murder trial of the 1920s.
