VLSIP Technologies company history timeline

1986

AutoLISP is a programming language introduced in 1986.

1987

In 1987 Stein decided not to build a $70 million production facility, but to wait one year and see if demand picked up.

Unfortunately for VLSI, semiconductor demand ballooned in 1987 and the company was swamped with orders which it didn't have the manufacturing capacity to fill.

1992

In mid-1992, for example, the company announced that it would be working with Intel Corp. to manufacture chips that would enable computer manufacturers to build powerful handheld computer devices.

1993

That success was diminished in December of 1993, however, when Apple Computer decided to cancel a large portion of its chip orders from VLSI. The announcement sent VLSI's stock tumbling 30 percent in a single day.

1995

AutoLISP was updated for several years, up until 1995, but has since not been further developed by Autodesk who aimed to replace the language with development environments.

1997

Autodesk bought Vital-LISP and renamed it Visual LISP. Visual LISP would be sold in addition to AutoCAD starting in 1997.

1999

Visual LISP would continue to be updated by Autodesk until their 1999 release of the product, serving as an upgrade or replacement for AutoLISP. Since then, Autodesk has moved away from updating Visual LISP and instead moved towards other customization environments.

2014

Autodesk stopped supporting older VBA versions starting in 2014, in a continuing plan to start moving towards .NET for customization instead.

2015

AutoCAD 2015 - Multiple commands in Autolisp

2016

AutoCAD 2016: Quickly Start a new drawing with Design Center
