The Department of Nutritional Sciences at Auburn University invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor with a research focus on bioactive dietary compounds and/or precision nutrition. This position is part of a strategic initiative to expand the department's research portfolio in the impact of food and the diet on human nutrition and to align with university-related initiatives.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop a robust, externally funded research program that investigates nutrition science on physiological effects, mechanisms of action, translational potential of bioactive compounds, nutritional genomics, and/or personalized nutrition strategies. Research areas may include, but are not limited to, chronic disease prevention, nutrient-gene interactions, gut microbiome modulation, and metabolic health. The candidate's work should contribute to the advancement of human nutrition science and support the land-grant mission of Auburn University.
This faculty member will also teach undergraduate and graduate courses, including Experimental Foods (lecture and laboratory), which focuses on the chemical, physical, and sensory properties of food through research and product development. Additionally, the faculty member will contribute to curriculum development to integrate emerging science with an understanding of how nutrient intake and individual variability influence health outcomes.
Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain an active, externally funded research program in bioactive dietary compounds, nutritional genomics, and/or precision nutrition.
Publish scholarly work in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at national and international conferences.
Collaborate with faculty internal to the department as well as across disciplines and engage in interdisciplinary research initiatives.
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses, including Experimental Foods (lecture and lab), nutrition science, and other foundational courses in nutrition and research
Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research.
Advise undergraduate and graduate students on issues related to professional development, curriculum requirements, and career advancement.
Participate in departmental, college, university, and professional service activities.
The Department of Nutritional Sciences in the College of Human Sciences offers a dynamic environment for discovery and innovation. In fall 2027, the department will be relocated into a newly constructed Academic and Research facility that will include labs for bench nutrition science research, an applied nutrition lab to support human clinical research, and an 8-station food and nutrition laboratory with the ability to conduct sensory evaluations. Faculty expertise spans metabolic disease, genomics, and community-based health programming. Minimum Qualifications
Earned doctorate in Nutritional Sciences, Biochemistry, Physiology, Food Science, or a closely related field at the time of hire. Applicants without a doctorate in one of these fields must provide evidence of at least 18 graduate credit hours in Nutrition or Nutritional Sciences within a terminal degree in a discipline that supports the primary responsibilities of the position.
Evidence of or strong potential for excellence in research, teaching, and service.
Demonstrated interest in the science of nutrition as it relates to physiological effects, mechanisms of action, translational potential of bioactive compounds, nutritional genomics, and/or personalized nutrition strategies.
Experience, or a strong potential for excellence, in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and laboratory-based instruction, with a desire for candidates with knowledge of and experience with chemical, physical, and sensory properties of food.
Commitment to teaching and mentorship at the undergraduate and graduate levels
Desired Qualifications
Postdoctoral experience and a record of peer-reviewed publications and grant activity are desired.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

* Must possess an EPA certification and licensure from the Alabama Board of Heating and Air.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Bachelor's Degree with 27 semester hours in the teaching field and six (6) years of documented full-time work experience in the teaching field; OR Bachelor's Degree with specialized coursework equivalent to the community or technical college program and six (6) years of documented full-time work experience in the teaching field.
* Successful completion of an approved occupational examination within the first year of employment
