Methodology – How We Determined The Worst Cities For Women In Texas
Each city was evaluated based on four key indicators:
- Percentage Of Women In Management (Lower percentage is worse)
- Percentage Of Women Living In Poverty (Higher percentage is worse)
- Women’s Earnings Compared To Men’s Earnings (Lower ratio is worse)
- Uninsured Women (Lower percentage is worse)
To analyze income disparities between men and women, we referenced data from the Census’ American Community Survey. The ratio of median male income to median female income was calculated to understand the earnings gap.
For poverty rates, we focused on women living alone, as this demographic tends to experience higher poverty levels. This approach provides a clearer picture of the challenges faced by single women.
The percentage of women in management roles was also derived from the ACS, emphasizing the representation of women in leadership positions—a critical factor in promoting gender equity.
Lastly, we obtained statistics on uninsured women from the ACS to assess healthcare access.
Only cities in Texas with populations exceeding 5,000 were included in our analysis.
