Bethany Retirement Living company history timeline

1964

1, 1964, Bethany Village has been a leader in retirement living in central Pennsylvania for people age 55 plus.

1967

Plans for expansion began almost immediately, with the first 15 cottages approved for construction in 1967.

1969

Established in 1969, it is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, composed of community representatives who are elected for a three-year term.

1973

Bethany Retirement Home, Inc. began serving its residents in 1973 as a Domiciliary Care Facility and is certified to operate today by the New York State Department of Health as an Assisted Living Facility.

1978

Established in 1978, it is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, composed of community representatives who are elected for a three-year term.

1980

Orchard Homes at Bethany Village, Inc. (Orchard Homes) consists of 23 homes constructed over a two-year period in the early 1980’s.

1985

Mavis Whiting had been with Bethany for 21 years, including many years as Administrator, until her retirement in 1985.

1998

In 1998, the community laid the groundwork for years of expansion, purchasing an additional 100 acres of land (formerly the Sheely Farm) across the road from the existing campus to create the West Campus.

2000

Bethany Village began taking reservations for West Apartments in late 2000.

2004

The community grew steadily through the decade, opening the West Apartments, MapleWood Assisted Living and The Oaks Skilled Nursing during 2004.

2008

The latest round of expansion was concluded in 2008, with the opening of the West Cottages and Estate Homes.
