Do environmental services include maintenance?

In some cases, someone else cleans areas or items, but the environmental service technician is responsible for ensuring the overall cleanliness of rooms and equipment and ensuring staff can access the clean items.

Common duties and responsibilities of an environmental service technician include the following:

• Sweep and clear outside areas, especially entryways

• Wipe down and sanitize countertops, desks, and other surfaces

• Gather and wash soiled linens, including cubicle curtains

• Restock linens and other supplies

• Maintain and store cleaning equipment

• Maintain a high level of cleanliness in accordance with JCAHO standards.

• Perform terminal cleans within operating rooms, NICU, ICU, and E/R.

• Prepare HIPPA and JCAHO reviews, ensuring required brochures and pamphlets are available to staff.

• Job duties as an EVS technician include routine cleaning and maintaining assigned areas of the hospital.

• Perform cleaning of the unit, patients' rooms, and discharge patients' rooms by OSHA standards.

• Perform mercury and inorganic chemistry analysis on carbon and water samples in compliance with EPA and ASTM methodologies.

• Clean and sanitize all areas of the hospital, following strict guidelines and procedures to meet and exceed OSHA standards.
