Does Magellan Health drug test?

Once you receive the email notifications from their background vendor, Certiphi, you have 48 hours to complete your drug screen. The invitation to complete the application online and the details about scheduling your drug screen is then emailed to your work email address. Please carefully read and follow the instructions outlined on the emails for completing the drug screen.

While some individual states, including Massachusetts, have legalized recreational marijuana use in recent years, marijuana is still listed as a scheduled and controlled substance under the federal Controlled Substances Act.

Therefore, any use of marijuana is strictly prohibited under federal law and, as noted above, Magellan requires drug screens for all new employees to comply with federal and contractual requirements.

Magellan Health uses either an on-site mouth-swab or a urine sample. They use a 10-panel drug screening test that looks for the following:

• Amphetamines (methamphetamines, meth, speed, ecstasy)

• THC (cannabinoids, marijuana, hash)

• Cocaine (coke, crack)

• Opiates (heroine, opium, codeine, morphine

• Phencyclidine (PCP, angel dust)

• Barbiturates (phenobarbital, butalbital, secobarbital)

• Benzodiazepines (diazepam, alprazolam, clonazepam)

• Methaqualone (quaaludes)

• Methadone (opiate analgesic)

• Propoxyphene (darvocet)

• Alcohol

Magellan Health is also a smoke-free workplace. Employees are not allowed to use tobacco or vaping products while at work. This includes during their breaks. Magellan Health offers a variety of free smoking cessation programs for those looking to quit.
