How do I become a case manager with no experience?

By Zippia Team - Nov. 2, 2021

To become a case manager, you typically need an advanced college degree, hours of training, and state licensure.

While some employers will hire candidates with a bachelor's degree, most prefer to hire individuals with a master's degree in social work. Nurses pursuing a position in case management will obtain a nursing degree and then secure a certificate in case management.

Some states require candidates to obtain a set number of hours in the field prior to receiving their license. Candidates should investigate internships and trainee positions in order to acquire these needed hours.

State licensure varies, but the Association of Social Work Boards sets standards for testing and acquiring hours necessary to obtain a license.
