How do you write a resume for 15 years of experience?

Your resume should include the following sections:

• professional summary

• chronological detail of your professional success

• educational background

• skills or qualifications

• certification (if applicable)

When writing a work experience section, someone with 15+ years of experience should aim for a total of 30 to 40 bullet points across all your current and past positions. Typically, eight bullets for your most recent positions, followed by four for everything older.

If you've worked at the same job for most of your career, then you should be splitting up your 30 bullet points across the different job levels and titles you've had.

Finally, list eight to ten core competencies or skills that you possess that are important to your success in the jobs outlined above. They should be skills that are "level-appropriate."

For example, if you're applying for C-suite jobs, listing "time management" or "presentation skills" would be far too junior to mention in your summary. Rather you would want to list skills such as agile development, software architecture, engineer recruiting, and technology Innovation.
