How long does a Lyft background check take?
The Lyft background check process typically takes between two to four days. In some cases, the lack of electronic records at the county level can prolong the process. Even with these exceptions, the process should not take more than ten days.
The background check is covered by the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and your profile and information will be protected. The company performing the background check will start with searches of the county and federal courthouses.
The search will consult multi-state criminal records, the DMV, and the National Sex Offender Registry to ensure potential drivers have not been involved in any activities that would threaten the safety of Lyft's customers. Any outstanding issues, such as a criminal charge that is still pending, will turn up in the background check.
Some felony offenses may or may not cause Lyft to reject the application. These will vary depending on the seriousness of the charges and local laws concerning what makes someone a "safe" driver.
