How long does it take to become a psychologist?
It takes about 6 to 12 years to be a psychologist. Most psychologists have at least a master's degree, if not a doctorate. In some cases, time spent in clinical or residency programs is also required.
The field of psychology you wish to go into will determine how long it takes to become a psychologist. Most psychologists must have a doctoral degree in psychology, but some areas of the field, such as industrial-organizational (I/O) psychology and school psychology, may only require a master's degree.
