How long does it take to go from associate to consultant?

By Zippia Team - Jan. 22, 2022

It typically takes one to three years to move from associate consultant to the position of consultant. Job titles and levels of promotion may vary among companies, but candidates will typically have to work several years at each level before being promoted.

In some circumstances, an associate consultant refers to a contractor that has been hired on a daily rate for a specific task. This differs from an associate consultant that is a full-time employee of a firm. Contractor consultants are typically hired at a higher daily rate than principal consultants.

In the vast majority of cases, associate consultants are entry-level employees who work under principal consultants. They will assist these consultants in all facets of consulting and, after several years of gaining experience, eventually be promoted to a principal consultant.
